Star Spaces (referred to generically as Stars in Mario Party 10) are spaces that appear in the Mario Party series, where if a character (who has 20 coins) passes by one, the host of the Mario Party game asks the character who passes by the space if the player will trade 20 coins for a Star (giving them a "Yes" or "No" answer). The character can say "Yes" or "No" and the character can either get a Star or not depending on the choice.

After the character gets the star, the Star Space moves to a different location in the map. On certain boards, such as Faire Square from Mario Party 6, and DK's Stone Statue from Mario Party DS, the Star Space's location remains stationary. It is called a Star Splurge Space in the DS game.
On Party Rules in Super Mario Party Jamboree, every board except Mario's Rainbow Castle has a Homestretch event titled "Add one Star Exchange" that adds a second Star Exchange.

Although it is impossible to actually land on Star Space, there is a small chance that a new Star Space will appear directly where a character is standing. However, this character is unable to buy the Star if the Star is on the current space where he or she is standing.

When characters pass a star space, they can buy it if they have enough coins. How many coins they have to trade depends on the board. Traditionally, they have to trade 20 coins for a star, but on certain boards, the star may cost as little as five coins or as much as 40.

MC Ballyhoo, Mario Party 8

A Star Exchange,[1] originally known as a Star Space (or star space), a Star Spot (or Star Splurge Space at DK's Stone Statue) in Mario Party DS, and generically a Star in Mario Party 10, is a space in the Mario Party series. When a player character passes one, a character, usually the guide, offers them to trade a number of coins, usually 20, for a Star. However, depending on the board, the cost can range from as low as 5 coins to as high as 40. On several boards, the Star Exchange moves elsewhere once the Star has been received, but there are exceptions, the earliest being Mario's Rainbow Castle from Mario Party, but also Faire Square from Mario Party 6 or DK's Stone Statue in Mario Party DS. Prior to Mario Party 6, the Star Space may sometimes appear directly where a character is standing, although that character cannot begin their turn with the option to buy the Star.

On Party Rules in Super Mario Party Jamboree, every board except Mario's Rainbow Castle has a Homestretch event titled "Add one Star Exchange" that adds a second Star Exchange.
