Players try to memorize the locations of items on the shelves for several seconds before [[Toad (species)|Toads]] mess up the shelves, obscured by white smoke, then some of the items are shown on the floor.
 
Players try to return the items to their original positions before time runs out. Players can each open and close the curtains on their side, the latter intended to be for when they are done placing the items. After time runs out, all of the closed curtains reopen, and the correct placement of every item is revealed, from left to right. Players who correctly put back the most items win. If all players earn only three or fewer points (zero in ''Mario Party Superstars''), the result is a draw.

Messy Memory is a 4-Player minigame in Mario Party 3 and Mario Party Superstars.

Players try to memorize the locations of items on the shelves for several seconds before Toads mess up the shelves, obscured by white smoke, then some of the items are shown on the floor.
