The minigame takes place on a desk with a giant green binder with light-blue and pink papers on each side and four crayons (in ''Mario Party Superstars'', four more crayons, as well as a crayon case, are visible). Both teams must use large crayons to draw lines around the moving picture of a [[Toad (species)|Toad]]. Circling the Toad frees him from the picture and awards that team one point. As lines are drawn, they begin disappearing upon reaching a certain length. As more Toads are rescued, their pictures will begin moving around the play area. The first team to save five Toads wins. If neither team can rescue five before time runs out, the team that saved more Toads wins. If both teams rescued the same number of Toads, the minigame ends in a draw; in ''Superstars'', this is only the case if neither team rescued any Toads.

Both players on a team have crayons, which they both try to draw a circle around a moving Toad picture on their side, as the lines drawn by crayons disappear after some time. When both team players draw around a Toad, he is freed, earning the team a point. The team that draws around five Toad pictures first wins, though if neither of them do within the time limit, the side that circled the most Toads wins. If both teams rescue the same number in Mario Party 3, it is a draw, but in Mario Party Superstars, a draw occurs only if neither team has circled any Toads.

The title is a play on the drawing toy Etch A Sketch.
