Troopeas are enemies that appear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its remake, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. They are the Beanbean Kingdom counterpart to Koopa Troopas. Their name is a portmanteau of "Troopa" and "pea", the latter of which is a legume like a bean.

Troopeas have violet shells and sprouts sticking out of their heads; they appear as quadrupeds in the original game, but in the remake they are bipedal and wear shoes, more akin to modern Koopa Troopas. Troopeas are found mainly in the south-eastern area outside Beanbean Castle Town, near Woohoo Hooniversity, and are often accompanied by Parabeanies. A winged variant of Troopeas called Paratroopeas can be found in some of the other areas outside Beanbean Castle Town, and later in the game, stronger red-shelled versions called Elite Troopeas appear in Gwarhar Lagoon.

Battle[edit]

Troopeas only attack by trying to ram Mario or Luigi. This can be countered by jumping; if the Bros. stomp on them this way, they can use the Troopea's shell to damage other enemies, much like the Green Shell Bros. Item/Special Attack in later Mario & Luigi games. The Bros. must continue jumping on the shell to keep the attack going, which only stops once they miss, the shell hits one of them, or they run out of enemies that can be hit.

Troopeas can also create small water droplets that restore HP to one of their allies or themselves, an ability shared by all of their variants in some form. They are extremely resistant to all forms of attacks except jumping; they duck into their shell if regular non-jump attacks are used, and any such attacks only deal 1 damage per hit.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, Troopeas appear as enemies in Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser. They are first encountered in the level Turnip Tantrum. They are Melee troopers, and attack by charging into opponents. Their Special Skill, Rock Solid, allows them to enter their shells and raise their defense.
