The Fossil and the Bones is a side quest in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. In this quest, Mario and Luigi must give a Sharkbone Bone to a Sharkbone expert, which can only be obtained by defeating a Sharkbone in battle.

The Fossil and the Bones becomes available after linking Offandon Island, and expires after the second visit to Fortress Zokket. Clearing the side quest awards two Ultra Candies and a Max Mushroom.

Side quest

To initiate the side quest, Mario and Luigi must speak with a Sharkbone expert on Allsand Island, who is located on a side path only accessible via Connectar Flowers. The expert tells the Bros. he researches Sharkbones, and he requests them bring a Sharkbone Bone to him. The brothers must defeat one in battle to acquire the item. After retrieving a Sharkbone Bone, the Bros. give it to the Sharkbone expert, who studies it before thanking Mario and Luigi, giving them rewards afterwards. The side quest is then complete.
