Spanglers[1] are enemies in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are dark gray-striped alien spiders with maroon heads and are closely related to the fuzzy, brown-colored Spoings, both of which resemble the recurring Scuttlebug enemy. Spanglers hang from awnings by a thread of silk attached to a bright pink spinneret on their abdomens.

History[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Spanglers first appear in Super Mario Galaxy. When Mario (or Luigi) approaches where they roost, they descend to his level and begin swinging around gently to try and hit him. jumping on them defeats them immediately, while spinning them or hitting them with a Star Bit causes them to swing away while twirling out-of-control, stunning them briefly and rendering them harmless for that period. If they are spun at in this state, they are defeated. They release a coin or three Star Bits, depending on how they are defeated.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

Spanglers return in Super Mario Galaxy 2, where they act the same as before. Unlike Spoings, Yoshi cannot eat them, and hitting them with his tongue causes the same effect as hitting them with a Star Bit.
