“This is a love letter. It's jam-packed with smolderin' signals of true love from this Heatfreeze Island girl, huh? And Heatfreeze and Twistee are connected back up now. No reason they gotta be apart... We oughta help out the lovebirds and get this letter over to that wannabe dancer on Twistee!”
Snoutlet, Mario & Luigi: Brothership

Separated is a side quest in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. In this quest, Mario and Luigi must bring a wannabe dancer from Twistee Island and a girl from Heatfreeze Island together.

Separated becomes available after re-linking Twistee Island and Heatfreeze Island and expires after the second visit to Fortress Zokket. Clearing the side quest awards three Max Mushrooms and three Ultra Mushrooms.

Side quest[edit]

To start the side quest, Mario and Luigi must fish up a bottle with a note inside it. The note reads:

I'm worried that our paths might not cross again. Where are you now?

This is to the boy who had his heart set on becoming Twistee Island's number one dancer.

Well, I think you're even better than Dyode!
And I think that whenever I see you.
I believe you'll make it. I know you'll be famous.

It feels like we just met, and then Heatfreeze Island and Twistee Island got all bonkers again!
Broken apart, into lonely little pieces...

I hope this letter reaches you, somehow.

I'll wait for you as I work at the Heatfreeze Island swimming area. I'll wait forever if I have to!

Now that both of the islands are reconnected, Mario and Luigi set out to Twistee Island to find the wannabe dancer, who is hiding out in fear on the west part of the island in fear. When he is found, he tries to run away, but the Bros. stop him from doing so. He then asks for mercy, and the brothers tell him about a letter for him. Excitedly, the dancer declares he wants to talk to her because she complimented his dancing. He then rushes off to Heatfreeze Island. The Bros. then head there as well.

On Heatfreeze Island, both the dancer and the girl are together at the swimming area. The girl thanks Mario and Luigi for bringing them together and gives them their rewards. She then tells the brothers that her crush is not interested in getting a job, and only wants to surpass Dyode. The girl then says it is OK, and makes her job of selling ice cream more meaningful. The side quest is then complete.

  • Pink gossip: "Totally! It's exciting to think you might catch something...tasty!"
  • Blue gossip: "But you know what? I was at the fishing spot earlier. I saw a weird object floating by. It looked like a bottle."
  • Yellow gossip: "Then it has to be..."
  • Pink gossip: "Unmistakably..."
  • Blue gossip: "Just some trash. Surely."
  • All three: "Oh goodness! Ohohohohoho!"
