A Letter from a Drifting Island is a side quest in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. In this quest, Mario and Luigi find and rescue the younger treasure-hunting brother stranded on Shroonken Islet.
The quest becomes available after linking Allsand Island and expires after the first visit to Wayaway Island. Clearing the side quest awards two Ultra Candies and one Stache Bean.
Side quest
To begin the side quest, Mario and Luigi must fish up a bottle containing a note inside of it on Shipshape Island. The note reads:
"I’m such a fool. My older brother said he had a real-deal treasure map. He lied!"
"I went off alone to find the treasure. And then the land split apart."
"Now I’m stuck on a tiny island, all by myself, FOREVER."
"Why did I believe my brother?"
"Ugh, no… Why did I go by myself? Why didn’t I bring him along?"
"I wish I could see the white dunes and golden oil of my home, Allsand."
"But with any luck, this message will reach my brother…"
The fishing NPC then states that the little bro might need a helping hand.
On Allsand, the older treasure-hunting is worried about his little brother. After Mario and Luigi tell the brother about the note, the older brother reveals the location of the location - Shrooken Islet - on the Ocean Map. Before the Mario Bros. leave, Snoutlet says that they will find the younger brother. The older brother then says that he appreciated it.
After traveling up to the summit on Shrooken Islet, the Bros. see find the younger brother. However, he stated that he sent that letter because he was lonely. However, he now likes being their because living there was great, and he can yell and run like a wild person and was free. After Mario and Luigi tell him that his brother was worried, he is convinced to go back even though he would be sad to leave.
After returning to Allsand, the big brother sees that the little brother was okay. The little brother then says that he will miss that place as he found the new him there. After the big brother says that he is glad to have his little brother back, he gives them the reward. With the little brother wanting to go on another treasure hunt, the big brother doesn't want him to as it is his job to worry about him. The little brother then makes a promise to not go alone and the big brother will hold onto his word.
