Badwagon

Template:Kart-infobox The Badwagon is a kart from the Mario Kart series. It resembles a pink muscle car, as well as the Flame Flyer from Mario Kart Wii. The emblem is located on the hood. The vehicle's name is a pun on the bandwagon effect, a psychological phenomenon where individuals more easily conform to a trend set by a larger group of people regardless of contrary evidence.

History

Mario Kart series

Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

The Badwagon first appears in Mario Kart 8 as a default kart body. Though muscle cars are typically built for speed, the Badwagon does not offer a ground speed boost (though it offers a water speed boost); it excels at weight and traction while acceleration and handling are lowered. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, however, it offers a speed boost on the ground while the water speed is reduced.

The back of the kart is adorned with stereo speakers, tailfins, neon lights and a Roy Smooth Sounds logo. The stereo speakers and the lights animate to the beat of the background music, while they are idle in the beginning of the race and briefly when the final lap jingle plays. It shares its stats with the Tri-Speeder, the Steel Driver, the Standard ATV, and the GLA. Artwork of the kart also shows that it has four-wheel steering, though it is not used in-game. It has the engine sound of a V-twin with loud and distinctive exhaust noise.

A CPU-controlled Peach will occasionally use this vehicle body, paired with the Standard tires.

While this vehicle body is available right from the start in Mario Kart 8, in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it must be unlocked by collecting coins. CPU King Boo, Roy, Wario, and Pink Gold Peach occasionally use this body during races with the Off-Road tires.

Mario Kart Tour

The Badwagon returns in Mario Kart Tour, where is is classified as a High-End kart. Mini-Turbos last longer and yield more points when using this kart. It uses the Retro Off-Road tires (although a screenshot showed it with the Pipe Frame’s tires instead). Unlike its first appearance, the speakers do not move and the lights do not flash. The game also introduces a blue variant, simply named the Blue Badwagon, which is also classified as a High-End kart, but it is exclusive to the New York Tour.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Badwagon appears as an Ace-class Shield-type primary spirit, using the Mario Kart 8 artwork featuring Pink Gold Peach. The spirit has two support slots and increases a fighter's movement speed when used. The spirit battle takes place on the Mario Circuit stage and has a Metal Peach as the opponent, reflecting the Pink Gold Peach artwork used to represent the spirit. Other than by winning this battle, the Badwagon spirit can be obtained by purchasing it from Funky Kong's Shack for 4000 Spirit Points at regular price.
