Template:Character-infobox The Big Boo is a recurring boss who first appeared in Super Mario World. He is a translucent Big Boo and secret villain of the game. Despite that, he looks identically like all Big Boos without any differences from them, except that he is white in Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World. The Big Boo is actually the first notable character to be a ghostly boss and the second biggest Boo before the Bigger Boo.

The Big Boo is the leader of the Boos. He is also an ally of Bowser, King of the Koopas, yet it is not known that he is one of Bowser's servants.

Super Mario World

The Big Boo's fight with Mario in Super Mario World.

The Big Boo first debuted in Super Mario World, he is a hidden boss only found in the Secret Donut Plains Ghost House, where he inhabits.[1] He has two normal Boos accompany him in battle. The way he behaves is sightly different from that of other Big Boos. The Big Boo floats in the air around Mario, rather than chasing him. The Big Boo can only be injured when he is visible, so Mario has to throw a Grab Block at him at the right moment. Once hurt, he will become almost invisible, moving somewhere else and reappear. The Big Boo needs to be hit three times to be defeated. Mario or Luigi could touch the boss without being hurt, instead they must be wary of the normal Boos. Once The Big Boo is defeated, the new path to Star World will be shown.

Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World

In Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World, The Big Boo is actually seen to be really white and is much visible than translucent when he is visible.

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3

The Big Boo reappears in the GBA remake of Super Mario Bros. 3, again as a boss who Mario has to fight against. He appears only in the e-Reader's scanned level Doors o' Plenty where he plays the exact same role to that of Super Mario World except this time he could hurt Mario or Luigi by touch. He is again alongside his two Boo allies for assistance in the same way. Instead of using Grab Blocks, Mario must use Ice Blocks and throw at him three times to defeat Big Boo.

Super Mario 64/Super Mario 64 DS

The Big Boo made another appearance in Super Mario 64 again as a recurring antagonist. A few years later after his loss in Super Mario World, Big Boo has residen in his new home, Big Boo's Haunt, just about when Bowser had invaded the Mushroom Kingdom and attacked Princess Peach's Castle. The Big Boo is now officially a leader of the Boos.

In the Japanese version, The Big Boo are known as "Boss Teresa" rather than "Atomic Boo" (The Big Boo's Japanese name). The giant Boo that appears when all of the ghost mansion's Boos are defeated is referred to is also known as "Master Teresa".

In Super Mario 64, The Big Boo is first encountered in the first mission of that world, Go On A Ghost Hunt. To see him, Mario must defeat every Boos on the first floor, and once every one of them has been defeated, Big Boo will appear in the main room of his mansion. The Big Boo behaves the same as every Boos from the game, though he is slow but will be faster if getting smaller. He can be defeated by being punched from behind, as he turns invisible whenever Mario faces him from the front. He is not very difficult to defeat as The Big Boo really has no attacks besides bumping into Mario. He is also easier to hit because of his large size. Once Mario has defeated him, a Power Star appears on the second floor and a staircase appears from the ground to reach it. In Ride Big Boo's Merry-Go-Round, right after Mario defeats five normal Boos, The Big Boo will appear again for another battle. This battle with Big Boo is slightly harder because of the rotating platform and fire coming out of the paintings. In the end, he will give up another Star once Mario defeats him in the same way he did in the first mission. In the fifth mission, Big Boo's Balcony, Mario's next journey takes him to another encounter with The Big Boo. He will have to head up to the third floor and see a door that will lead to the outside balcony, where he will meet Big Boo once again. After his third defeat, Big Boo will give up yet another Power Star. The Star will jump up to the roof of the house, and Mario will have to get up there to retrieve it.

In Super Mario 64 DS, The Big Boo's Haunt is also inhabited by King Boo. However, in the game, he is erroneously referred to as Big Boo in English versions. The Big Boo can be defeated by Mario, Luigi, and Wario, but not Yoshi.

Boo Leadership

The Big Boo is also the leader of the Boos. Although he commands a large band of Boos, not all Boos call The Big Boo their leader. Some Boos work directly for Bowser or King Boo. These Boos from Bowser's Koopa Troop are most likely the Boo enemies that have appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 before The Big Boo's debut, while the rest of them are his before King Boo's debut and are not his after King Boo's debut. Yet, The Big Boo's troops are affiliated with King Boos since Super Mario 64 DS. Despite that, he still leads the Boos.
