Bombs Away is a 4-Player minigame in Mario Party, Mario Party 2, Mario Party: The Top 100, and Mario Party Superstars. Its name comes from an exclamation that is commonly said when someone is preparing to throw or drop something.

Gameplay

A pirate ship with Bowser's emblem on one of the sails (replaced with a Bowser-themed battleship in Mario Party 2) appears at the scene, shooting cannonballs at an island that bobs and tilts. The players have to avoid falling down into the ocean while the cannonballs hit the island. If one of the cannonballs hits the island and one of the players has failed to jump to avoid the shockwave, the player is temporarily stunned. If a player is caught right under a cannonball, they are blasted off the island into the water, where a Blooper takes away the character. The last player standing, or any players who survive for 30 seconds, wins. In Mario Party and Mario Party 2, a draw takes place if the remaining players get eliminated. In The Top 100 and Superstars, this occurs only if all four players are eliminated simultaneously.

In Mario Party 2, Bullet Bills are sometimes shot, and they always land on the island. When the clock reaches seven seconds, the ship engages a very powerful missile that has a wider blast radius than the standard Bullet Bills fired onto the island. The minigame ends when either one player remains or the time runs out (in which case all remaining players win). Also, this minigame starts with a whistle blow instead of the harmonica from the previous game.

On Mini-Game Island and in the Mini-Game Coaster, the player must stay on the platform for the whole 30 seconds to clear the minigame. Even if the three CPU players are eliminated, if the player does not last 30 seconds, they lose. This is no longer the case on The Top 100's Minigame Island.
