Ground Pound is a 1-Player minigame in Mario Party.

Overview[edit]

The player observes the pegs before the butterflies cover the top of them,[1] but some are not covered completely. In gameplay, the player tries to hip-drop every peg with a flat top, but if they do so on one with a pointed top, it stuns them briefly.

The minigame costs 50 Coins to buy at the Mini-Game House.

Controls[edit]

  • Control Stick – Move
  • A ButtonJump
  • A Button + Z Button – Hip Drop

In-game text[edit]

  • Game Rules"Hip Drop onto the flat-topped posts. Try to remember which are flat and which are pointy before the butterflies land."
  • Game Rules (Mini-Game Island)"Pound the flat-topped posts with Hip Drops. Clear the game by pounding all the flat-topped posts."
  • Advice"Watch carefully. Look beneath the butterflies, and you'll see parts of the posts."

Names in other languages[edit]

Language Name Meaning Notes
Japanese ひっこめヒップドロップ[?]
Hikkome hippudoroppu
Hip-drop Retracting
French Pilonna-jeu[2] Pounded game (also a pun on papillon ("butterfly")
German Boden-Rammen[?] Ground-Ramming
Italian Ground Pound[3] -

Notes[edit]

  • The minigame descriptions in Mario Party and Mario Party 2 use the phrase "Hip Drop" despite the minigame title, whereas the move would not be called "Ground Pound" until Mario Party 3 onward.
  • When the minigame is played by a CPU character of any difficulty, they always hip-drop an incorrect peg for every correct one.[citation needed]
