The Landship is a kart from the Mario Kart series. It is a small kart similar in appearance to the Airships from Super Mario Bros. 3, with cannons that move back and forth as if firing while the kart moves. The emblem is located on the cannon covers.

History

Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

The Landship debuts in Mario Kart 8 as an unlockable kart body part. It grants the player a large acceleration boost and a slight handling boost, at the expense of speed, weight, and traction. It shares its stats with the Biddybuggy and Mr. Scooty. It changes color for all the Koopalings, with the back cabin and cannon covers matching their airships from New Super Mario Bros. U and the seat matching their shell colors. All the other characters have a similar color scheme to Bowser's airship from the New Super Mario Bros. games.

The Landship is one of the vehicle bodies that a CPU-controlled Bowser or Koopaling will occasionally use, combined with Wood tires. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, CPU-controlled Bowser Jr. also occasionally pairs the Wood tires with the Landship, while Bowser now pairs the Landship with the Bowser Kite as well. While the Landship's ground speed, anti-gravity speed, and traction have improved, its air speed, acceleration, ground handling, air handling, anti-gravity handling, and mini-turbo are all weaker than before.

The Landship's engine sounds like a four-stroke while idling, but sounds like a two-stroke while accelerating. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it shares its engine sound with the Inkstriker, which is that of a straight-twin engine.

Before Mario Kart 8 was updated to Ver. 2.0, the Landship's vehicle customization icon always showed the color scheme used by the non-Koopaling characters, even when used by a Koopaling.

Color schemes

  • Larry Koopa - Sky blue seat, yellow cannon covers, green cabin
  • Morton Koopa Jr. - Black seat, grey cannon covers, grey cabin
  • Wendy O. Koopa - Pink seat, pink cannon covers, red cabin
  • Iggy Koopa - Light green seat, purple cannon covers, green cabin
  • Roy Koopa - Purple seat, red cannon covers, pink cabin
  • Lemmy Koopa - Orange seat, light green cannon covers, sky blue cabin
  • Ludwig von Koopa - Blue seat, orange cannon covers, green cabin
  • All other characters - Red seat, green cannon covers, red cabin

Mario Kart Tour

The Landship returns in Mario Kart Tour as a Normal-type kart. It uses the Slim tires from Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It offers longer-lasting Mini-Turbo boosts and increases the number of points earned for performing Mini-Turbos. Unlike before, the Landship's cabin, cannon covers, and seat do not change color, regardless of whether a Koopaling is using it or not. The kart's cannons also no longer move. The game introduces a gray variant, the Warship, which also has the Normal classification; and a Christmas-themed variant, the Cheership, which has the High-End classification.

As well as being a common item available in most pipes and the Daily Selects, the Landship has been obtainable by other means such as tour gifts. The following table lists the Landship's special availability by tour.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit

The Landship makes a return in Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit. It was distinctly redesigned from its previous appearances, with it appearing longer with multiple masts, its steering wheel set near the middle of the kart, and an added camera near the back of the kart. Unlike most karts in this game, it does not change its color scheme when used by Luigi.
