Coney Island is a 4-Player minigame found in Mario Party 5, Mario Party: The Top 100, and Mario Party Superstars. Its name is derived from the name of the famous neighborhood in Brooklyn. It takes place atop a statue of Mario holding an ice cream cone upward, which plays homage to another New York City landmark, the Statue of Liberty.
Originally, the minigame was named Ice-Cream Catcher, and it was included as part of a Mario Party 5 demo found on a bonus disc bundled with preorder copies of Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Introduction
The camera shows the entire Mario statue as it heads up to the surface of the ice cream cone it holds, with the four players standing on it.
Gameplay
This minigame's object is to catch the scoops of ice cream that fall from above by moving to where their shadows are. As the player's pile of ice cream becomes bigger, it becomes harder for them to walk and turn. Any player with the biggest ice cream cone at the end of the 30-second time limit (and therefore the one(s) who caught the most ice cream) is the winner. However, if no one has caught any ice cream, then the minigame ends in a draw. There are eight different flavors.
Ending
The four players line up in the center of the area. In Mario Party 5 and Superstars, the winning player's/players' ice cream cone(s) then shrink(s) to a smaller size as they strike a victory pose. Simultaneously, the other players perform their losing poses as their ice cream cones disappear. In Mario Party 5, if all players have caught the same number of ice cream scoops, they all perform their victory poses.
