A Preying Mantas[1] is an enemy introduced in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, its port, and Yoshi's New Island. Its name is a portmanteau of praying mantis, a type of insect, and manta ray, a kind of stingray. Preying Mantas move up and down in a small area, making them little of a threat to the Yoshis. A Preying Mantas can be defeated from one of Submarine Yoshi's torpedoes.
