The Metal tires are a set of unlockable tires in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. They are shaped like a boat's rotor with four blades, and, as the name shows, they have silver-gray metal treads.
The Metal tires offer a strong boost to weight, weighing the same as the Monster and Hot Monster tires, along with a slight boost in speed. However, they also hinder traction and acceleration heavily. Their stats are shared with the Gold Tires. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, CPU Iggy, Koopa Troopa and Dry Bones use these tires with the Steel Driver, while Metal Mario uses these tires with the Tri-Speeder or the Jet Bike, Dry Bowser uses these tires with the Bone Rattler and Pink Gold Peach uses these tires with the Comet.
In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Metal tires still share their stats with the Gold Tires, but their stats have been somewhat altered. They now offer an improved boost to ground speed—same as that of the Slick and Cyber Slick tires—and a slight increase in water speed, but their air speed, anti-gravity speed, acceleration, ground handling, water handling, air handling, anti-gravity handling, traction and mini turbo stats have been further reduced.
While the original Metal tires do not return in Mario Kart Tour, dark blue variants with a different appearance are used by the Steel Driver, Pirate Sushi Racer, Sushi Racer and Jet Cruiser. A small variant is used by the Cheep Snorkel and Penguin Slider, which also has a gold version which is used by the Gold Cheep Snorkel.
