Spoings[1] are fuzzy, brown-striped alien spiders that attack by hopping in place. They are close relatives of the gray-colored Spangler, and both resemble the recurring Scuttlebug enemy.
History[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
In Super Mario Galaxy, Spoings appear mostly in the Space Junk Galaxy and are found in large numbers along the path leading to their leader, Tarantox. They stand in place, darting their eyes around until Mario approaches, at which point they start facing him and performing their attack to block or land on Mario. They attack by first standing tall by stretching their legs underneath them, then slowly jumping into the air before gently falling back down, allowing them to repeat the process. Mario can defeat the Spoings by jumping on or spinning them. They release a coin or three Star Bits, depending on how they are defeated.
