Flomps (also called floating plates[1] or flipping panels[2]) are enemies in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Their name is a portmanteau of "flip" and "Thwomp," alluding to their behavior and appearance. These Thwomp-like creatures appear as green platforms with spikes on their sides and have similar faces to Bomps.
History[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
Flomps mostly act as ordinary platforms, with some revolving mildly in one spot and others moving from side to side. However, at set intervals, they make a rattling sound, their faces become angry, and then they quickly flip over. If Mario or Luigi is on one of these platforms when they flip, he will be knocked high into the air. They appear only in Bowser's Lava Lair and the Grandmaster Galaxy.
Mario Party: Island Tour[edit]
Flomps are obstacles in the minigame Flip Out in Mario Party: Island Tour. Flomps act and look like they did in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Flomps are used by the player characters as regular platforms to cross a chasm to the finish line, though characters that stay on a Flomp as it flips are flung three spaces backwards.
