Small Chomps,[1] or Mini Chomps,[2] are diminutive Chomps that appear in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. They behave like their larger counterparts, but they are slightly shorter than Mario and generally rarer enemies. They are nearly indestructible.
Small Chomps are comparable to the Chain Chomplets from Super Mario Sunshine and have a similar bark.
History
Super Mario Galaxy
In Super Mario Galaxy, Mini Chomps occur only in the Dreadnought Galaxy during the mission Dreadnought's Colossal Cannons. Doghouse-like little houses perpetually expel Mini Chomps down a slope, over two sets of Flipswitch Panels. Mini Chomps give off high-pitched barks when they exit a house, and they do not pick up speed as they roll down the slope. Stepping on every Flipswitch Panel defeats all of the Mini Chomps in the area and halts their expulsion from the little houses. A Mini Chomp leaves three collectible Star Bits behind when destroyed.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Small Chomps occur in Sky Station Galaxy and the Chompworks Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2. In this game, they perpetually roll along tracks arranged into a circle on the ground. They are defeated when struck by the player character in their Rainbow form or a rubbery bulb. Multiple Small Chomps are fastened to one track. P2's Pointer can hold one in place with so that the other Small Chomp collides with it, defeating both of them. Most Small Chomps release three Star Bits when destroyed, but there is one in Sky Station Galaxy that contains a key during Storming the Sky Fleet. Collecting it opens a nearby cage and frees the Luma within.
Small Chomps are sympatric with normal Chomps in the Chompworks Galaxy, rolling in circles. In one location, they are expelled from Chomp boxes and roll in straight lines. Colliding with the hyperactive Gearmo at the end of their trajectory destroys them.
