After the first strike, the boss will stomp in anger, and with a ''swoosh'' of its fiery tail continue chasing Mario. After the second strike, the flaming boss will begin shooting fireballs out of its mouth, making the planet arena a much more fiery and dangerous place to walk around. The player must dodge the fireballs and the trails they leave, dodge the trail that the Dino Piranha's bulb leaves, and wait until the bulb has lost its fire before striking. The boss will ignite into flames once more in a cry of agony before falling dead to the ground and vanishing in a poof of smoke.

After the third strike, the flaming boss will begin shooting fireballs out of its mouth, making it harder to maneuver around the planet to reach its tail . Only after successfully dodging the fireballs and the trail left by Fiery Dino Piranha's tail will the player be able to land the final hit on Fiery Dino Piranha. Template:Articleabout Template:GBoss-infobox Fiery Dino Piranha is a boss fought in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. The character is similar in appearance to Dino Piranha. Unlike Dino Piranha's green/purple theme, however, Fiery Dino Piranha has a red/black color theme . It has a dark red body and a head that's black with dark red spots. Its petals are also similar to those of Dino Piranha, but appear more singed. Fiery Dino Piranha's tail occasionally catches on fire during the fight, leaving a fiery trail behind it that hurts the player if touched. Also, later in the fight, Fiery Dino Piranha can shoot large fireballs at the player. It's also much faster than its normal counterpart, making it harder for Mario to reach its tail to attack. The player can, however, more easily catch up with the tail by long jumping around the planet.

In Super Mario Galaxy, Mario battles Fiery Dino Piranha in the final level of the Melty Molten Galaxy. The beginning of the battle is much like that of the normal Dino Piranha fight, with Mario landing on top of the egg, cracking the egg and waking the boss. As the blind boss trots around the planet, the bulb of the tail will ignite and extinguish in a steady rhythm forcing Mario to wait until the tail is extinguished to attack and break the egg away.

Once the flaming boss emerges from the egg, it will spot Mario and chase him, much like the original boss. However, the bulb's fire will still flicker on and off, still forcing Mario to wait until the tail is not on fire before striking. This can be tricky, for someone who is chasing the Fiery Dino Piranha might find themselves running right into a ball of flames that has just ignited.

After the second strike, the boss will stomp in anger, and with a swoosh of its fiery tail continue chasing Mario, leaving a trail of fire behind its footsteps. A scene will then start where the boss bursts into flames while crying in agony before falling dead to the ground and vanishing in a poof of smoke.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Fiery Dino Piranha does re-appear in Super Mario Galaxy 2. It is the last boss Mario fights in Boss Blitz Galaxy. The battle sequence is the same as in Super Mario Galaxy.

On a side note, if players lose a life while fighting it, they must fight Bouldergeist again.
