King Kaliente is a boss in Super Mario Galaxy. He is fought on the left route in the demo at E3. Also, King Kaliente doesn't resemble a Blooper. He strongly resembles Octos from Yoshi's Safari, who only make an appearance during a miniboss battle underwater. He appears on the cover of Super Mario Galaxy.

King Kalientes are bosses in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are two similar-looking Roctos who seems to be in league with Bowser, as one leads a portion of his fleet and the other is called upon by Bowser Jr. to fight Mario, and guards a Grand Star. The first is fought in the Good Egg Galaxy and the second in Bowser Jr.'s Lava Reactor. The first battle is for a Power Star and the second battle is for a Grand Star. Their name comes from the Spanish word caliente, which means "hot". The King Kalientes shares their boss music with Bugaboom and Topmaniac. The two King Kalientes are differentiated from each other in the same manner as the counterparts for Dino Piranha and Gobblegut. The game's English trading cards treat the two as the same individual.

King Kaliente is basically a lava octopus galaxy god, one of the kings of the galaxy. His crown could tell that he is the king of the Octos, but this is unconfirmed. He is fought twice: once in the Good Egg Galaxy and again in Bowser Jr.'s Lava Reactor. The second battle is for a Grand Star.

The standard King Kaliente is first fought in the Good Egg Galaxy, where he resides in his volcanic-topped UFO, the Octo Magma planet. After Mario lands on the Octo Magma planet, a yellow Luma will warn him about the king (albeit indirectly, only stating that there is "big danger" up ahead). When Mario reaches the volcanic side, the king will emerge from the lava pool and shake his head, angered that Mario has awakened him, beginning the battle. He will first spit out three fireballs, followed by a coconut. Mario must perform a Spin or a Spin Jump to whack the coconut back at him, which stuns him, and Star Bits will emerge.

Possible Relatives
The king will again shoot out three fireballs and then a coconut, which Mario can spin back at him, which will make the King deflect it back at Mario. If Mario whacks it at him again without the coconut flying past him, he will knock the king's crown off for the second successful hit. If it is missed, the attack pattern will repeat until Mario is successful. If the player long jumps to King Kaliente during the battle, King Kaliente will knock the player back like he does when deflecting a coconut.
*Cosmic Blooper - Super Mario Galaxy (most likely)
*Octopus - Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
*Octo - Yoshi's Safari
*Blooper - Super Mario Bros.
*Gooper Blooper  - Super Mario Sunshine

Combat
King Kaliente will get very angry after his crown falls and sinks into the lava, and unleashes a big roar of wind, blowing the lava around and sprouting small Lava Bubbles that will bounce on the lava or on the ground toward Mario for the rest of the battle. If they touch Mario, they will burn him and cause him to lose up to two HP. Again, the king must be attacked three more times in a row with a coconut. If this is pulled off, King Kaliente finally fails to deflect and is knocked out, collapsing back into the lava pool.  A Power Star will sprout out of the lava and appear next to Mario, and the Lava Bubbles will vanish.
The enormous lava-bathing creature emerges from the pond of lava on Magma Planet, settling his tentacles on the sides and floating in the middle. His attacks consist of spitting yellow, glowing, miniature comets at Mario that Mario must whack back at it with a Spin Jump, practically, as quoted from a reporter at E3, "Playing tennis with the boss."

It also uses its tentacles for the battle, mainly just moving them around a bunch. If they touch Mario, he gets injured. Once Mario hits King Kaliente enough times, his crown will fly off, revealing his antenna.
It appears that in development, the player was able to "swipe" the fireballs away using the Star Pointer, as seen at the end of the E3 2006 trailer. However, this feature is not present in the final version of the game.

The fight takes place on a ring of small conjoined hexagonal platforms that will sink into the lava if Mario stands on them for too long. This King Kaliente's attacks are also much more frequent, and include sending in dozens of Lava Bubbles after the first hit, taking an additional shot in the first and second hits, and after his crown is knocked off, meteors begin raining down from the sky. After Mario defeats him, he will give up a Grand Star.
Once Mario comes up to the top of Magma Planet, the king will emerge from the lava pool and shake his head, angered that Mario has awakened him, then the battle will begin. He will first spit out three fireballs that Mario cannot touch without hurting himself, then King Kaliente will spit out a yellow comet of molten rock. Mario must perform a Star Spin or a Spin Jump to whack it back at him, then the king will throw it back at Mario. If Mario whacks it at him three times in a row without letting the comet pass behind himself, he will knock the king's crown off. If it is missed, the fireballs and comet attacks will be done again repeatedly until Mario knocks the crown off.

King Kaliente will get very angered after his crown falls and sinks into the lava, then unleash a big roar of wind, blowing the lava around and sprouting little bouncing Lava Bouncers, that will bounce on the lava or on the ground toward Mario for the rest of the battle. King Kaliente is a giant Rocto. Unlike most of the game's Roctos, he resembles a real-life octopus due to his long suction cupped arms, just like a real octopus's arms. His skin is orange and his eyes are blue. Unlike the other Roctos, his skin lacks spots, more akin to an Octoguy. He has a crown on his head, a small red cape tied around his neck with a jeweled brooch, and a white mustache above his nozzle-like mouth. A small antenna topped with a red orb emerges from the top of his head, just barely visible above his crown. The second King Kaliente's whole body has a much darker, blacker hue and red eyes.

The King Kaliente is like a gigantic orange Blooper mixed with an octopus, sitting in lava. More clearly, he is a mega-sized Cosmic Blooper. To make things more think-about-able, he has a crown, making him a king of the Cosmic Bloopers (Goomba King, for example). His antenna on his head has a red orb on top, resembling a Cosmic Blooper. Other features include a white mustache and his unique skin color.
Mario must fight this Blooper-octopus boss twice — once in the Good Egg Galaxy, where King Kaliente appears orange, and a second time in Bowser Jr.'s Lava Reactor, where he appears black with red eyes. When he is battled again, his whole body has a much darker, blacker hue.

History[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Normal[edit]

King Kaliente, after Mario knocks his crown off. This can be done by hitting him twice in a row with coconuts.

It appears that in development, the player was able to "swipe" the fireballs away using the Star Pointer, as seen at the end of the E3 2006 trailer.[1] However, this feature is not present in the final version of the game.

Black[edit]

The second, dark-colored King Kaliente is fought in Bowser Jr.'s Lava Reactor. It is brownish-black with glowing red eyes, giving him the alternate label of King Kaliente (Black).[2] His tactic is the same as the one in the Good Egg Galaxy, but he becomes more aggressive much faster and the fight itself is harder.
