At the starting line, if a player holds the Control Stick when it says "go", the player will be penalized for five seconds. If the driver goes too fast, they will start to spin. The first player to reach the goal wins.
Players race around a track for four laps while riding slot cars. However, driving too fast around corners causes them to spin out, while holding the Control Stick or Circle Pad when the announcer says "Go!" results in a few-second penalty. Any player passed by an opponent a lap ahead gets rammed into and removed from the minigame. The first player to meet the objective wins, but if none of the players have completed four laps within two minutes in Mario Party, five minutes in Mario Party 2, or three minutes in Mario Party Superstars, it is a draw.

In Mario Party, there are two tracks with one being shorter and having less complex turns than the other, which has a similar shape to Luigi Raceway. In Mario Party 2, there are three tracks: the first one is bean-shaped, the second one C-shaped, and the third one is cloverleaf-styled. The first track from Mario Party 2 is the one used in The Top 100.
Mario Party features two tracks, individually selectable as Slot Car Derby 1 and Slot Car Derby 2 in the Mini-Game House, with the former being shorter and having less turns. Slot Car Derby 1 and Slot Car Derby 2 cost 450 and 500 coins to buy at the Mini-Game House, respectively. Mini-Game Island features the second track as the goal, where Toad is an opponent.

In Mario Party, the minigame will end in a draw if no players have reached the goal within 2 minutes. In all games, if a player is overlapped by another player, that player will be rammed into, eliminating them.
Three tracks appear in Mario Party 2, with each having the respective shapes of a bean, a "C," and a clover leaf, as well as representing the respective Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties in Mini-Game Coaster. The whole minigame costs 150 coins to buy from Woody. The bean track appears in Mario Party: The Top 100 (also the fifth and final minigame of the Half Decathlon), as do all three tracks in Mario Party Superstars.

Slot-Car Derby in Mario Party Superstars
Gameplay of track 1 in Mario Party Superstars

Players race around a track for four laps while riding slot cars. However, driving too fast around corners causes them to spin out, while holding the Control Stick or Circle Pad when the announcer says "Go!" results in a few-second penalty. Any player passed by an opponent a lap ahead gets rammed into and removed from the minigame. The first player to meet the objective wins, but if none of the players have completed four laps within two minutes in Mario Party, five minutes in Mario Party 2, or three minutes in Mario Party Superstars, it is a draw.
