A Spring Star is a miniature Boost Star item found in the upcoming game Super Mario Galaxy. Like Boost Stars, these little things give Mario boosts into the air. However, these don't send Mario flying into space with power. They simple give him a small fling into the air to reach other things.

In some situations, there will be Spring Stars that will throw Mario up to a higher Boost Star, so he can use that to go to another planet; in other situations, the Spring Stars will bounce Mario to other nearby planets instead of farther away ones.

Spring Stars look a bit like Boost Stars, but with less sharp edges and a much smaller size. They do not have the orbs at their five ends like a Boost Star, so they are not resembled to a Sherrif's badge like their larger counterparts.

There is a giant planet-sized Spring Star visible in the distance in one of the gameplay footages from a trailer of Super Mario Galaxy; its use is not known.

Sling Stars are objects in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. These miniature Launch Stars give Mario (or Luigi) boosts into the air. However, these do not send Mario flying into space; they give him a small fling into the air to reach other nearby platforms, other nearby planets, and other areas. Sometimes, there are Sling Stars that throw Mario up to a higher Launch Star, while other times, the Sling Stars bounce Mario to other nearby planets instead of ones farther away, where a Launch Star would not be needed. Sometimes a Sling Star flings the player into the air, revealing rings of Star Bits, before returning the player to the planet.
