“There was a time...when I thought myself the best and brightest. I had too much confidence. I miscalculated my worth. I've left all that behind me...back at my workshop with my creations.”
Technikki, Mario & Luigi: Brothership

Technikki's Past is a side quest in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. In this quest, Mario and Luigi must bring back Technikki's confidence by finding an award certificate of the Genius Competition.

Technikki's Past becomes available after re-linking both Twistee Island and Heatfreeze Island, and expires upon entering the Gulchrock Sea, Great Lighthouse Island. Clearing the side quest awards the Technikki Wrench.

Side quest

To begin the side quest, Mario and Luigi must speak with Technikki on Shipshape Island. She tells the Bros. that she is an average genius, and that she knows of the great inventor known as Adaphne. Technikki continues to tell them that she had too much confidence thought herself to be the best, but has now left all of that behind at her workshop on Merrygo Island. Snoutlet then suggests to travel to Technikki's workshop to find and bring back her confidence.

Upon arriving at the workshop, the group find a note on the closed garage door, there to let residents know that Technikki now inhabits Shipshape Island, and to find her there if they need something. On closer inspection, the note is actually an award certificate, describing that Technikki won the First Match Genius Competition on the other side. A resident then interrupts, wanting to show Technikki his latest invention. A Glohm Snaptor arrives and picks up the resident, forcing Mario and Luigi to save him by defeating the Glohm Snaptor and a Glohm Krode in a battle. After the battle, the resident thanks the brothers and declares that he does not measure up to Technikki as an inventor or a person, and plans to come back some other time. The group then take the certificate and return to Shipshape Island.

After giving the certificate to Technikki, she thanks the Bros. and remembers the Genius Competition she had with Adaphne. The event is shown in a flashback, in which Adaphne wins the competition overall. Adaphne then speaks with Technikki, telling her she almost had three wins in the competition. Technikki leaves, and Adaphne calls her an "average genius" before returning the crowd. Before the flashback ends, Technikki calls her invention (later revealed to be Arc's spyglass) "garbage" and regrets making it. Back in the present, Mario, Luigi, and Snoutlet tell Technikki she is appreciated and needed. Technikki responds that it is all in the past, and offers to help out whenever she is needed, expressing that she is a genius after all. The side quest is then complete.
