Snow Blocks[1][2] are prominent objects in Pokipede Pass. As snow falls in the course, it accumulates as these blocks on the ground. Snow Blocks fall apart when struck from below regardless of the player character's form. Unlike similar blocks, they do not inhibit their jump when struck from underneath, nor do they release items upon breaking. Player characters can stand on top of Snow Blocks like other platforms, and they can be broken with a ground pound. Despite arranging as columns on the ground, Snow Blocks do not drop downward if the block underneath is destroyed, allowing the player character to create shapes out of the snow.[1] Whohoos and the eponymous Pokipedes effortlessly break Snow Blocks in the path of their attacks. In contrast, Goombas cannot break Snow Blocks and sit on the ground if they are trapped between them.
The Wonder Effect of Pokipede Pass is a strong blizzard that causes many Snow Blocks to accumulate on the course, and as they are destroyed, new ones materialize in their place. Conditions subside and the excess Snow Blocks disappear when the Wonder Flower is obtained.
Snow Blocks were the basis of a digital "Wonder Challenge" for Japanese audiences, where players were encouraged to carve out a shape in the snow with Yoshi and upload screenshots of their efforts to Twitter. The example screenshot is shaped like Small Mario's head in Super Mario Bros.[1]
