Race Blocks[1] are blocks appearing in Super Mario Bros. Wonder that allow players to start a Friend Race. They have a red-white checkered pattern, which scrolls to the right when a Friend Race is in progress. Race Blocks appear at the start of most courses when the player is currently in a Friend Room.
Race Blocks can be activated by jumping into them. Once a player in the Friend Room has activated the Race Block, a timer starts for other players to join the race. Once all players have activated the Race Block, a countdown from three starts the race. When participating in a Friend Race by activating a Race Block, an icon of a Race Block appears next to a character's icon in the top-left corner of the screen. In Wiggler Race courses, the Racing Wiggler is also shown as a participant in the Race Block's message box.
