Variant of Plurp

Cluckbooms[1] are enemies in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, being aggressive, explosive, and vibrantly plumed versions of the Plurp from Super Mario Sunshine. They are found exclusively in desert galaxies. Compared to the hen-like Plurps, Cluckbooms more resemble roosters, fitting with their more aggressive behavior.

History[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Cluckbooms first appear in Super Mario Galaxy, appearing exclusively in the Dusty Dune Galaxy. Like Plurps, they fly high over the ground, but every so often gradually lay an egg-like bomb that explodes after a few seconds. Additionally, they follow Mario rather than flying in passive loops like Plurps do. They alert the player to the bomb by making a loud squawk when it drops. A high Spin or a Star Bit can momentarily stun them and bring them to the ground for the player to defeat. Their spiky combs protect them from stomps while they fly, though they can be safely stomped when stunned, as well as spun or simply kicked. One is found flying over a flowing river of sand and gets carried along it if it falls onto it. Another follows Mario up an extended elevator sequence, flying away at the end if it is not defeated.
