Template:Articleabout Template:Level Jungle Hijinxs is the first level of Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country Returns. It is located within the Kongo Jungle in Donkey Kong Country, and within the Jungle area in Donkey Kong Country Returns.

In Donkey Kong Country, the level starts off outside Donkey Kong's tree house. If the player turns back when beginning the level, they can enter the house for a Extra Life Balloon, or enter the cave beneath Donkey Kong's house to check on his Banana Hoard - where he will find his bananas gone (unless the player has finished the game, in which case his bananas will be piled up in the cave). The level plays host to simple enemies; Gnawtys, Kritters, Klumps and a single Necky. It is also where the Animal Buddy, Rambi the Rhino can be used for the first time. It is a simple level with very few pitfalls. The Kongs can also run along the treetops to search for hidden items. As the Kongs come to the end of this level, it gets dark and becomes night time.

Jungle Hijinxs reappears in the most recent addition to the Donkey Kong Country series, Donkey Kong Country Returns. Here, one can find Donkey Kong's treehouse a second time to find an Extra Life Balloon. Similar to the Jungle Hijinxs from the first Donkey Kong Country, this stage is rather basic, with very few pits. However, the level does feature some new enemies, such as falling statues, Frogoons, Tiki Goons, Awks, and Rawks. The Kongs can also enter the background of a level for the first time here by using an Auto Fire Barrel.

Level Layout

Donkey Kong Country

From the start of the level, Donkey Kong shoots out of his tree house and lands in front of a cave, which was once filled with dozens of ripe bananas. Donkey Kong should break Diddy Kong out from a DK Barrel, and then they must travel east. They should come up to several enemies, including some Kremlings and Klumps. As they make their way through the jungle, the heroes should collect bananas over the few raised pieces of land, and then they must proceed through the area to reach the Star Barrel.

Now halfway through the short level, the Kongs must continue east and watch out for many eggs, thrown by a Necky on the above ledges. When they pass this foe, they must break open a large crate, which contains Rambi. When they get on the Animal Buddy, they must journey farther through the jungle and hop up a few small ledges. Without hitting any of the Kremlings walking on these ledges, the monkeys must jump up and land on the bright green treetops. Shortly after, though, they must jump down and continue across the lush forest. Afterwards, Rambi and the Kongs will need to jump over a small gap and continue on. Soon, they will see an exit sign. When they walk a little farther, they will go into a cave and exit the level.

Secrets

Donkey Kong Country

Bonus Level(s)

  • After the letter N is obtained, the heroes must walk to a nearby wall to the right of them and break through it with Rambi. After the wall breaks open, an entryway will be revealed, which the group must go in. They should end up in a Bonus Level, where they may collect as many bananas as possible scattered around. At the end of the cave, the Kongs and Rambi must walk into the opening to exit the bonus area.
  • When the group comes up to the After the wall is broken, they must enter that opening to get in the Bonus Level. Here, the heroes must stop several barrels by touching them, which should make an image of a certain Animal Token appear on each one of them. If they can match all the barrels, they win the token they chose, and then exit the stage. If they lose though, they'll be awarded with nothing and be forced out of the bonus.
