A Warp Cannon in World 1 of New Super Mario Bros. Wii

A Warp Cannon[1] (alternatively not capitalized),[2] also simply known as Cannon,[3] is an object introduced in New Super Mario Bros. It is a type of cannon that can be entered like a Warp Pipe to take the player character to a certain later world, similarly to Warp Zones from earlier entries of the Super Mario series. Warp Cannons are unlocked by reaching a secret Goal Pole at the end of certain levels.

Warp Cannons appear in New Super Mario Bros. The secret exits in levels World 1-Tower and World 2-A unlock a Warp Cannon to World 5; the secret exit of World 3-Ghost House to World 6, the secret exit of World 4-Ghost House to World 7, and the secret exit of World 5-Ghost House to World 8. Warp Cannons are timed and cannot be exited without using them. The destination world is visible in a Warp Cannon area.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Warp Cannons look different but function identically in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Both World 1-3 and World 2-6 unlock the Warp Cannon to World 5; World 3-Ghost House and World 4-Tower to World 6; and both World 5-Ghost House and World 6-6 to World 8.

New Super Mario Bros. 2

Warp Cannons are different in New Super Mario Bros. 2. They are colored blue instead of black. Instead of being a single area with a cannon that fires into the background, Warp Cannons instead point forward. After a countdown, they launch Mario or Luigi forward into a nighttime environment reminiscent of the black backdrop at the end of levels in Super Mario Bros. 3. This is a full course, which has to be completed to arrive at the next world. The player character dashes uncontrollably, and there are enemies to avoid along the way. An Arrow Sign sign at the end pointing right serves as the goal. The character jumps as they leave the screen and arrive in the next world. Every cannon stage has a Red Coin challenge that unlocks a Gold Flower when completed. Warp Cannon stages never have Assist Blocks unlike other levels.

Additionally, Warp Cannons appear in some of the game's DLC courses. Those courses are the third course of the Nerve-Wrack Pack and the first course of the Gold Classics Pack. While still having the same gameplay, they do not have to use the same environment design.

Mario Sports Mix

Warp Cannons appear in Mario Sports Mix. They launch the player character in alternate routes to other areas in the Flower Cup tournament.

Fortune Street

Cannons in Fortune Street are used on the Yoshi's Island, Delfino Plaza, and Bowser's Castle boards to blast the player character to another square also having a character.
