Super Mario Party Jamboree is an upcoming game in the Mario Party series set to be released worldwide for the Nintendo Switch on October 17, 2024. First announced during the Nintendo Direct on June 18, 2024, it is the eighteenth (twenty-sixth, including arcade games) installment in the Mario Party series, the thirteenth released on a home console, and the third released for the Nintendo Switch. Serving as a successor to Super Mario Party, albeit with gameplay mostly modeled after Mario Party Superstars, the game features both new and returning boards, in addition to over 110 minigames, and an expansive roster of 22 playable characters, including newcomers Ninji and Pauline. It is also the first game in the Super Mario franchise to feature Kevin Afghani as the voice of Waluigi, succeeding Charles Martinet, as well as the first time he voices Mario, Luigi, and Wario in a Mario Party game.

A playable demo of the game was available at the Nintendo booth during PAX West 2024 prior to its release, from August 30 to September 2, 2024. A second demo is available to play in-stores starting on October 4, 2024.

Game modes

Mario Party

Like with its predecessor, Super Mario Party Jamboree features the traditional Mario Party gameplay as the main mode of the game; players traverse a game board to collect coins in order to purchase Stars. The gameplay is overall more similar to Mario Party Superstars than Super Mario Party, sharing many of the same rules and mechanics, such as the dice rolling between one and ten and the occurrence of Bonus Minigames, where the coins won are doubled. Various new mechanics are introduced, such as a revamped version of the ally mechanic from Super Mario Party. On certain turns, a Jamboree Buddy will appear on the board. This buddy can be one of a number of characters from the playable roster, each having their own special effect. On top of this, all of them share the effect of causing every board action to happen twice, such as gaining or losing coins, buying items or Stars, or even Boos and Bowser Spaces. In order to obtain the Jamboree Buddy, players must reach them on the board, which will start a Showdown Minigame, a unique minigame themed after the buddy. The player who reaches the buddy first will gain a slight advantage over the other players during the minigame. The winner of the minigame will receive the Jamboree Buddy. When obtained, the Jamboree Buddy lasts for three turns. Other players may also steal the buddy by passing by the player who currently owns them. If no player reaches the Jamboree Buddy within 3 turns, they will be removed from the board.

Pro Rules

Additionally, either Party Rules or Pro Rules can be selected for a game. With Pro Rules on, some mechanics of the game will be adjusted, aiming to create a more competitive game. These include:

• The turn count being fixed to 12.
• Having one Bonus Star that is announced at the start of the game.
  • The only Bonus Stars that can be chosen are the Sightseer Bonus, the Happening Bonus and the Slowpoke Bonus.
• Players starting the game with one item of their choosing. The items a player can choose include the following:
  • Mushroom
  • Warp Box
  • Creepy Dice Block
  • Cellular Shopper
  • Pipe
  • 10-Coin Steal Trap
  • Chomp Call (not available on Mario's Rainbow Castle)
  • Skeleton Key (only available on maps with a Skeleton Key Gate)
• Lucky Spaces only giving either a Double Dice or 10 coins.
• Unlucky Spaces always giving 7 coins to the last-place player.
• Chance Time Spaces not appearing, instead being changed to a different space.
• Bowser Spaces always taking away a Star.
• The stock of items in an Item Shop now being limited to two and not restocking once all items have been purchased.
• The spaces for where a Star can spawn being visible on the map, marked by a Star Stop Sign.
  • When a Star is purchased by a player, the Star Stop Sign will be removed from the map and a Star will no longer appear at a particular space until all Star Spaces have been used, at which point all Star Spaces will become eligible to host a Star and the cycle repeats, similarly to how the Star Spaces work in Mario Party 3.
• Boo's Coin Steal being locked to 15 coins and not being able to be driven away by the target player.
• Hidden Blocks not appearing.
• Players selecting one of three minigames at a time and the minigame then being randomly selected from the voted ones.
• Homestretch no longer having a special event.
  • The other events of Homestretch such as the Blue and Red Space increasing in amount earned or lost, respectively, and the duel that occurs when two players land on the same space remain unchanged.
• Players being able to wager a Star during a Duel if both players have one.

Minigame Bay

Main article: Minigame Bay

Minigame Bay is the main minigame mode for this game, taking place on and around an island. In addition to being able to play any unlocked minigame at any time, there are multiple side modes that focus on playing minigames.

Experience Party

Experience Party (Japanese: 体感パーティ Taikan Pāti) is a mode featuring three motion-controlled sub-modes where players work together.

Paratroopa Flight School

Paratroopa Flight School is a motion controlled mode where players must flap their arms like wings to control their character, who is wearing Koopa Paratroopa wings. There are three different modes to play: Sky Battle, Koopa Paratroopa Taxi, and Free Flight. In Sky Battle, two players compete to try to gather as many Para-Biddybuds as possible within a time limit. Players can sneak from behind to steal Para-Biddybuds from each other. In Koopa Paratroopa Taxi, two players must cooperate to carry a third character to a certain location on the map.

Toad's Item Factory

In Toad's Item Factory, four players work together to solve various puzzles to guide a ball across obstacles by moving the Joy-Con in various ways in order to reach the end. There are 30 different levels to play that get increasingly harder.

Rhythm Kitchen

Rhythm Kitchen is a rhythm-based mode similar to Sound Stage from Super Mario Party. Like in that mode, players play various rhythm-based minigames back-to-back. All of the minigames in this mode are themed after cooking. Instead of competing for the highest score like in the aforementioned mode, the players must instead work together to get the highest rating from three Yoshi judges.

Bowser Challenges

Bowser Challenges is a mode featuring two online sub-modes focused on large amounts of players playing at once, both prominently featuring Impostor Bowser. These modes can also be played locally, but every player must use their own Nintendo Switch system.

Koopathlon

Returning from Mario Party: Star Rush is the Coinathlon mode, now revamped into a new mode called Koopathlon. Compared to the original mode, there are now 20 players racing at once, rather than only four. At the end of every third minigame, a 20-player Bowser-themed Survivathon minigame starts, where Impostor Bowser attacks all 20 players at once. If the player loses this minigame, they are set back 10-30 spaces depending on their current placement; however, if they win, they will be given an item. Whoever is able to finish the race first wins.

Bowser Kaboom Squad

Bowser Kaboom Squad is a co-op mode where 8 players are pitted against Impostor Bowser on a city-themed map. In order to fight against Impostor Bowser, players must grab bombs and throw them into cannons found across the map. These bombs are contained in crates that must be broken by attacking them. Once 20 bombs are placed into a cannon, the cannon will fire at Impostor Bowser, causing him to lose health. Impostor Bowser will attack the players as they attempt to stop him. Being defeated by him will cause the player to get trapped in a Bubble. Another player must pop the bubble to revive them. After a certain amount of time, an 8-player co-op minigame is played, similar to the co-op minigames from Super Mario Party. Winning the minigame will reward the team with items that can be used to help defeat Impostor Bowser. Afterwards, another round starts and the cycle continues for 5 rounds. Once Impostor Bowser's health is depleted, a Star appears, which is then used by the players to become invincible and defeat Impostor Bowser in one final stretch where the players must mash to attack Impostor Bowser as he attempts to fight back.

Party-Planner Trek

In this single-player mode, the player travels around boards as a single character talking to NPCs and fulfilling goals for them to gain Mini Stars. Some NPCs will give the player Mini Stars if they clear a minigame, rewarding two per minigame. On Goomba Lagoon, once the player collects at least 30 Mini Stars, the yellow Toad will give them a souvenir and direct them to the next map, though before he does so, the sky suddenly turns dark. This is the first Mario Party game since Mario Party: The Top 100 to feature Mini Stars as collectibles.

Super Mario Party Jamboree features 22 playable characters, the largest number out of any game in the Mario Party series. In addition to the return of all characters from Mario Party Superstars and most from Super Mario Party (excluding Diddy Kong, Hammer Bro, Dry Bones, and Pom Pom), this game marks the first playable appearance in the series of Toad and Toadette since Mario Party: Star Rush and Spike since Mario Party 10. In addition, Ninji and Pauline make their debut as playable characters in the series. Every character also now has their own unique "turn start" jingle.

Although most characters are playable in every mode in the game, Bowser cannot be played as in either the Koopathlon or Bowser's Kaboom Squad modes.

Jamboree Buddies

10 of the 22 playable characters also appear as Jamboree Buddies. By running into one, a Showdown minigame is initiated to recruit them into the winner's team, with the player who initiated the minigame gaining a slight advantage. Each Jamboree Buddy has their unique ability on the board, and doubles everything that happens to the player, both good and bad. In free play and Party-Planner Trek, the character themselves can partake in their own Showdown minigame, with a grayed-out version of the character taking their place as an NPC.

Minigames

There are 112 minigames set to appear, the highest amount of minigames in a Mario Party title to date. Some minigames are brand-new, while others return from past Mario Party games. In addition to the usual minigame categories such as 4-player, 1 vs. 3, 2 vs. 2, Duel, and Item minigames, Rhythm minigames return from Super Mario Party, while 4-player Boss Battle minigames return for the first time since Mario Party: Star Rush, along with the Koopathlon and Survivathon minigames functioning similar to the Coin Chaos and Bowser's Gauntlet minigames from that game, respectively. New categories of minigames include 8-player minigames, where eight characters must work together to clear a task, not dissimilar to the Team and Co-op minigames from Super Mario Party, and Showdown minigames, where players compete in order to gain a Jamboree Buddy.

Motion-controlled minigames return from Super Mario Party, requiring a Joy-Con, and are not available when playing online. However, button-controlled minigames can still be played using a Pro Controller or while using a Nintendo Switch Lite. The confirmed minigames are listed below.

• Lumber Tumble, a minigame where players traverse a wooden bridge without falling off and are bordered by yellow Shy Guys standing on swinging logs, reminiscent of Funstacle Course! from Mario Party 7
• Big-Top Quiz, a minigame where Toads balance on a rubber ball with the image of an enemy on it
• Camera-Ready, a minigame where players must take a picture of characters in a park to match the center image

If a player jumps before the hand reaches them, the other player will be hit unless they jump as well.

Showdown

Some minigames are played to unlock certain Jamboree Buddies and are themed based on the character while featuring them in a non-playable capacity.

  • Bumper Balls, returning from Mario Party
  • Shy Guy Says, returning from Mario Party using Mario Party 2's version of the minigame
• Luigi Rescue Operation, a minigame where players must go through eight rooms of different puzzles to save Luigi
• Peach's Day Off, a minigame where players carry stacks of presents to Toads while avoiding Biddybuds, then give donuts to Peach, and then finally pick up gems to put them in a cannon to launch fireworks.
• Daisy's Field Day, a minigame where players jump on wooden platforms by a pier, with Daisy standing in front of the pier, to collect coins that have Daisy's emblem on them
• Wario's Buzzer Beater, a minigame where players participate in a game show hosted by Wario and must answer ten questions as fast as possible
• Waluigi's Pinball Arcade, a minigame where players compete for the highest score in Waluigi-themed pinball machines
• Yoshi's Mountain Race, a racing minigame where players ride Yoshis.
• A snowboarding minigame where players race downhill and jump off ramps, resembling Alpine Assault from Mario Party 8, with Star Bits floating above the course and Rosalina visible on the course
• DK's Konga Line, a minigame where players tap buttons to hit bongo drums, with Donkey Kong present
• Jr.'s Jauntlet, a minigame where Bowser Jr. uses a remote to activate different conditions for the players, such as dodging Bullet Bills or Amps or picking up a chicken

• A minigame where players battle a big Stingby, resembling Mega Goomba's Ladder Leap from Mario Party 10
• A minigame where players battle a giant Rocky Wrench using cannons

• Gold 'n Brown, a minigame where the player must bake bread in an oven and retrieve them to earn coins
• Spike's Gambit, a minigame where the player traverses an uphill course to collect coins, dodging the spiked rollers thrown by Spikes
• Down the Hatch, a minigame where the player must drop plush toys and various blocks by pushing them with a mechanical finger
• Lane Change, a minigame where the player drives a car down a futuristic lane to collect coins, resembling Rapid River Race from Mario Party 10
• Coin Conveyor, a minigame involving yellow blocks which the player needs to take from a conveyor belt and place on a green grid, reminiscent of Piece Out from Mario Party 5
• Which Door Has More?, a minigame with multiple characters present in a room with two doors and the player must determine which of the two species is larger
• Sky-High Cannons, a minigame where players traverse between Cannons in the clouds to collect coins

Survivathon

• Burning Bridges, a minigame with Impostor Bowser and three floor levels, where the players must avoid fireballs from Bowser Statues
• Castle Hassle, a minigame where players must run away from Impostor Bowser while avoiding lava and falling cannonballs
• An Impostor Bowser minigame where players have to choose from three chests that are shuffled around and avoid the chest with Bob-ombs
• A minigame taking place in a lava chamber with Impostor Bowser riding in the Koopa Clown Car where players must climb a pole while avoiding obstacles
• The Floor Is Falling, a minigame where players move on transparent tiles and avoid falling when Impostor Bowser makes them disappear

Race across the party board in Koopathlon, a series-first 20-player online competition to see who can rack up the highest scores in minigames like the fast-paced Lane Change. The higher your score in each round, the faster you'll get to the goal. If cooperative play is more your style, take on an Impostor Bowser in the 8-player online Bowser Kaboom Squad mode. You can also play the standard Mario Party mode with friends, family, and others online!
