Lucky Cat Mario,[1][2] also known as Maneki-Neko Mario[3] or Golden Statue Mario,[2] is a derivative form of Cat Mario in Super Mario 3D World and returns in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. It resembles the original form, except the character wears a red collar with a Lucky Bell on it. The user transforms into this when a Ground Pound is performed after grabbing a Lucky Bell.
In this form, the user is a golden Maneki-neko statue of their Cat form holding a coin. Luigi's Lucky Cat form is slightly different; he is shown raising his left paw instead of his right, unlike everyone else. The others' raised right paws are based on a gesture used to bring in wealth and good fortune, whereas Luigi's raised left paw is commonly associated with businesses and owners wanting to bring in customers.
While similar to Tanooki Mario's Statue form, Mario is invincible, rather than merely invulnerable and ignored by enemies; he also earns Coins while falling in this form. Mario cannot remain in this form indefinitely; he reverts to Cat Mario either if the player stops the ground pound, or its 12-second time limit expires. Lucky Cat Mario can defeat almost all normally invincible enemies, such as spiked rollers, Fuzzies, Thwomps, Fuzzlers, and Rammerheads, and instantly defeat enemies that usually take multiple hits. However, it cannot defeat Ka-thunks, Big Ant Troopers, or Charvaarghs, and it does not protect against poison, lava, or being crushed. In Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, this form prevents Mario from rolling in midair, since he cannot stop his Ground Pound.
In the Super Mario Mash-up of Minecraft, Lucky Cat Mario is one of the many replacement skins for cats.
