- “What is this I speak of? I assure you that if we are being watched from another dimension... Those beings will understand. But you lack the mustache for full comprehension.”
- —Bestovius, Super Paper Mario
Bestovius is a powerful sage that appears in Super Paper Mario who is also the Dimensional Governor of Lineland and the so-called "Flip Wizard". He is responsible for granting Mario the ability to switch between the second and third dimensions, an ability that the game showcases throughout the entire story. He tries to charge Mario a huge sum of coins for the enchantment, but he eventually settles for a very small price or for free. His name is a pun on the word "bestow", as he bestows upon Mario the ability to flip between dimensions. He is found at the beginning of Chapter 1-1.
Bestovius thinks highly of himself and is a descendant of the ancients. He is also a distant cousin of Merlon and Merlee, and is a direct cousin of Old Man Watchitt. If Mario and friends return the You-Know-What from Watchitt to Bestovius, Bestovius will give Mario and co. the Training Machine (a Nintendo DS) that he had promised Merluvlee. According to Bestovius, he no longer needs it because he got a newer, sleeker model.
Bestovius believes that people from another dimension listen to him, and believes that they would wish to know that Mario can flip dimensions with . This is, indeed, breaking the Fourth wall, just as Thoreau does later in Chapter 1-2.
Bestovius appears in volume 37 of the Super Mario-Kun.
