Barry, Super Paper Mario

Barry is an optional Pixl in Super Paper Mario, and one of the twelve original Pixls created by the Ancients. When he is used, the main character spins in place for one second, creating an impenetrable spiky barrier that can damage enemies and deflect projectiles, hence the name. The ability is derived from the Superguard in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, but has more lenient timing.

History[edit]

Super Mario-Kun

At the start of The Bitlands, Barry is in a bush and witnesses Francis kidnapping Tippi. He reacts once Francis leaves, considering Tippi doomed.

Upon interacting with the bush, Barry emerges to talk more about Francis and his fortress, and gives three tips for reaching it. Each tip mentions something red: an X at the old castle, one of Big Blooper's tentacles, and a gust of wind. He then says to tell him how they rescued Tippi if they manage it.

If the player does return after clearing Fort Francis, Barry joins the party because he has nothing else to do.

Barry is the only Pixl not to immediately recognize Mario as one of the Heroes of Light; according to his Tattle, he is slightly embarrassed about this.

Super Mario-Kun[edit]

Barry appears in volume 37 of the Super Mario-Kun manga. As in the game, he informs Mario that Francis has kidnapped Tippi.
