The Standard Bike is a type of bike introduced in Mario Kart Wii. The Standard Bike is seen as a counterpart to the Standard Kart as it is balanced in stats. It resembles the bike used in NES game Excitebike.
History
Mario Kart series
Mario Kart Wii
The Standard Bike made its first appearance in Mario Kart Wii. Much like the Standard Kart, each size class has its own Standard Bike, being named Standard Bike S for the small size, Standard Bike M for the medium size, and Standard Bike L for the large size. Standard Bikes perform similar to Standard Karts stat-wise, as small characters have better handling and acceleration while large characters have higher top speed and weight. All Standard Bikes are drift type bikes, and their appearances are different between size classes. They are equipped with single cylinder four-stroke engines. The emblem is located on the front and sides of the bike.
A trophy of Mario riding his Standard Bike M appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. A support spirit using the artwork of Waluigi riding his Standard Bike L appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which increases the user's speed while they are at 0% damage.

Battle Mode
Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
The Standard Bike returns in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, being the only bike to return. It is redesigned to have a more modern look, resembling a late-2000s dirtbike. The side emblems have been moved closer to the front. In this game, the Standard Bike appears as one of the selectable vehicle parts for customization, they also can have custom tires and gliders. Unlike the Standard Kart, the Standard Bike alters stats slightly, raising the acceleration and handling stats, while lowering weight and traction. It shares its stats with Pipe Frame, Wild Wiggler, Flame Rider, Varmint, W 25 Silver Arrow, and City Tripper.
This is the only bike body used by CPU-players other than Mario, Link, Female Villager, and Isabelle in the original Mario Kart 8.
CPU-controlled lightweight characters (with the exception of Larry and Wendy) always pair the Standard Bike with Standard tires, middleweight characters (in addition to Larry, Wendy, and Link) always use the Slim tires (although Daisy can alternately be seen using the Monster tires instead), and heavyweight characters (with the exception of Link) always use the Monster tires (although Waluigi can also be seen using the Slim tires).
In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Standard Bike's stats have been altered, and are now exclusively shared with the Flame Rider, W 25 Silver Arrow, and Wild Wiggler. Additionally, CPU Inkling Boys and Girls are always seen using Monster tires like heavyweights instead of Slim tires like other middleweights. Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, and Cat Peach now use the Plane Glider with this bike body instead of the Super Glider. More CPUs are also seen using other bike bodies than the standard version as well.
Color schemes
- ¹ - These Standard Bikes have uniquely colored exhaust pipes, whereas every other Standard Bike has a black exhaust pipe with a yellow tip:
- Tanooki Mario's Standard Bike has an exhaust pipe with brown and orange stripes and a silver tip.
- Cat Peach's Standard Bike has a pink exhaust pipe with a yellow tip and stripe.
- Gold Mario/Metal Mario's Standard Bike has an exhaust pipe colored entirely in metallic gray along with the rest of the bike.
- Pink Gold Peach's Standard Bike has an exhaust pipe colored entirely in metallic pink along with the rest of the bike.
- Dry Bowser's Standard Kart has a black exhaust pipe with an orange tip and a red stripe.
- All of the Inklings' Standard Bikes have a black exhaust pipe with the tip's color matching the Inkling selected.
- Link's Standard Bike has a metallic dark blue exhaust pipe with a gold tip and stripe.
- Male Villager's Standard Bike has a black exhaust pipe with an orange tip and a dark red stripe.
- Female Villager's Standard Bike has a pink exhaust pipe with a yellow tip and a white stripe.
- Isabelle's Standard Bike has a dark green exhaust pipe with a yellow tip and stripe.
- ² - Both of Link's costumes use the exact same Standart Bike, however Champion Link's Standard Bike uses a different sprite in the menu.
- ³ - These Standard Bikes have a different colored handlebar, rather than black with a gray tip:
- All of the Inklings' Standard Bikes have a black and gray grill-patterned handlebar with the a gray tip.
- Link's Standard Bike has a black handlebar with a gold tip.
- Female Villager's Standard Kart has a hot pink handlebar with a white tip.
- Isabelle's Standard Kart has a yellow handlebar with a white tip.
