Princess Peach Toadstool is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, first appearing in Super Mario Bros. She was created by Shigeru Miyamoto, and is the damsel in distress in most Mario games, occasionally a key supporting character through most of the plot, and sometimes a playable character. Peach is portrayed as Mario's love interest. She resides in her castle. Peach has appeared in many sport outings as well as other spin-offs. She has starred in her own game, Super Princess Peach.

Game Appearances

The Captive Princess

Peach's first appearance.

Super Mario Bros. marked Peach's debut appearance. King Bowser of the Koopas, who had invaded the Mushroom Kingdom, had transformed all of its inhabitants into blocks and other strange objects. However, as it was foretold that the Mushroom King's daughter would be able to lift the spell, he kidnapped Princess Peach. Mario and Luigi recognized the threat and went on to rescue her. They went through eight castles, but each of the first seven was guarded by a fake Bowser and the only persons trapped there were Toads. After completing all seven castles and defeating the real Bowser, Mario finally found the princess and rescued her. After rescuing her, Peach gave Mario or Luigi a kiss and thanked him.

In Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Toadstool is kidnapped by Bowser again and rescued by Mario and Luigi the same way as before in Super Mario Bros.

A Daring Damsel

In Super Mario Bros. 2, players could actually play as Princess Toadstool. She, along with Mario, Luigi and Toad, was called by the Subcon to save the dream land of Subcon from the evil Wart. Her main ability was that she could float for a few seconds after each jump. Her abilities are based off of Lina from the original Doki Doki Panic.

Another Kidnapping

In Super Mario Bros. 3, the princess sent items to Mario and Luigi, while they saved the Mushroom Kings. After each world, they received a letter from Toadstool, telling them their next destination, and there was an item enclosed in the letter every time. Bowser had transformed all Mushroom Kings of the Mushroom World into different animals only as a diversion to kidnap Toadstool while the Mario Bros. were distracted. He took Toadstool to the Dark Land while Mario and Luigi were in the Pipe Land, but they followed and rescued Toadstool once more. The princess plays a joke on Mario at the very end by saying to him "Thank you, but our princess is in another castle!" referencing the Toads' often used quote in Super Mario Bros.

In Trouble Again

In Super Mario World, Mario, Luigi and Toadstool were having a vacation in Dinosaur Land when Bowser once again kidnapped Toadstool. Mario and Luigi rescued her with the help of Yoshi. This time, she was held captive in Bowser's Castle in the Valley of Bowser. Bowser had brought her inside his Koopa Clown Car for the final battle against the brothers. Peach was helping Mario or Luigi in the final battle by throwing mushrooms at them right before Bowser retreated after being hit three times. In the end, Toadstool was rescued by Mario or Luigi, and she gave either of them a kiss.

Sending for Help

In Yoshi's Safari, Bowser attacked Jewelry Land. He caught King Fret and Prince Pine and held them captive. Being a good friend of Prince Pine, Peach sent a letter to Yoshi and Mario to help them. Peach even gave them an item, the Super Scope, to help them in their quest. This is also the very first game to call Princess Toadstool "Peach" in North America.

In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, a SNES game made by Squaresoft, Toadstool was one of Mario's party members, along with Mallow, Geno and Bowser. At the beginning of the game, Bowser kidnapped her with his Koopa Clown Car, while she was sitting outside of Mario's Pad and signing while picking flowers. Mario came to her aid, and defeated Bowser after a battle. However, Exor crashed into Bowser's Keep, and sent the three flying in different directions. Toadstool landed in the tower of Booster. Booster fell in love with her, and planned to force her to marry him, despite her cries of "MARIO, HELP ME! MARIO, HELP ME! MARIO, HELP ME!". While she was held captive, the Chancellor took her place as the head of Mushroom Kingdom.

After Mario had charged Booster Tower and defeated Knife Guy and Grate Guy, Booster ran away with her up Booster Hill, and reached Marrymore, where he wanted to marry Toadstool as soon as possible. Mario managed to stop the wedding and took Toadstool back to the Mushroom Kingdom. However, she escaped from the castle with the help of her Grandma, who was taking her disguise, and joined Mario's party to help them defeat Smithy.

Her healing abilities made her one of the most important members of the group. The game also introduced a Toadstool Clone, which could use the same and more powerful attacks, such as Mega Recover. This game also revealed that the princess has an item that is very secret to her. Mario could find Toadstool's ??? in her room, but she got very angry at Mario when he tried to look at it. At the end of the game, Toadstool and Mario returned to Mushroom Kingdom together.

The Castle Kidnapping

In Super Mario 64, Peach baked a cake for Mario and invited him to her castle, but when he arrived there, he found that Bowser had kidnapped Peach again. She was sealed in the fresco of her over the entrance of the castle. After Mario defeated Bowser in the level Bowser in the Sky, Peach and two Toads were rescued from it. Peach thanked Mario by kissing him and baking the cake for him. Also, it should be noted that this game is the first and only game to merge both names for the princess. She signed her letter as "Princess Toadstool, Peach", which establishes Toadstool as her last name. Subsequent games use her first (or original) name exclusively.

Super Mario 64 DS had the same plot, except this time Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario were there to help Mario rescue Peach.

A Two-Dimensional Quest

In Paper Mario, the second Mario RPG, King Bowser once again kidnapped Peach, this time using his castle to carry her away. Bowser uprooted Peach's Castle, with his own built below it, and flew it into the sky. With the power of the Star Rod, he defeated Mario, who was currently in the castle attending a party of Peach. While being held captive in her own room in the castle, a Star Kid named Twink came to help her, and together they found a secret passage out of her room. She sabotaged Bowser's plots by supplying Mario with a relatively constant stream of information, using Twink as her messenger. She also used a special treasure chest, where she could store items, and Mario could fetch them at the chest's counterpart at Shooting Star Summit. She baked a cake for Gourmet Guy, and also participated in the 64th Trivia Quiz-off run by Bowser's minions, where she won a Sneaky Parasol, which allowed her to turn herself into one of Bowser's guards. She could use the parasol to become a Koopatrol, a Clubba and a Hammer Bro. However, her disguise was lifted by Kammy Koopa as Kammy recognized Peach.

At the end of the game, Bowser tied her to the ceiling of the main hall as bait for Mario. Mario came and fought Bowser. After his defeat, Bowser grabbed the princess and ran to the roof of the castle. He then used the Star Rod to make himself completely invincible. Princess Peach and Twink got into a fight with Kammy Koopa, and defeated her. Then Peach wished that her kingdom would remain safe. Twink and Peach added their power to the Star Beam, then called Peach Beam, making it able to break Bowser's invincibility. Bowser was defeated and Peach's castle returned to its original spot in Toad Town. After the celebration parade, Mario took Peach to his place to watch the fireworks.

This game revealed Bowser's crush that he had developed on Peach. He talked to her in affectionate terms and declared his love for her in his diary.

Paradise Ruined

In Super Mario Sunshine, Mario, Peach and Toadsworth went to Isle Delfino on Peach's private plane. However, Bowser Jr., in the disguise of Shadow Mario, had filled the island with graffiti. The crimes were blamed on Mario, and he was sentences to clean the entire island with FLUDD. Peach's objection in the trial for Mario's obvious alibi was overruled by the Pianta Judge for no given reason.

Eventually, Bowser Jr. kidnapped Peach while Mario was away, and took her to Pinna Park, where he revealed his true identity. Bowser Jr. claimed that Peach was his mother and that the evil Mario had kidnapped her. After Mario destroyed Bowser Jr.'s Mecha-Bowser, in which the princess was held captive, Bowser Jr. took her to Corona Mountain. Later, Mario made his way to the top of the volcano and found Peach forced to bathe with Bowser and Bowser Jr. in a pool of green acid. This was described by Bowser as a "family vacation". Mario managed to rescue Peach, and later they were able to enjoy their vacation together with FLUDD. Bowser later admitted to his son he had lied, but for Bowser's surprise, Bowser Jr. said that all the time he knew that Peach was not his mother.

The Neighboring Kingdom

Peach in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Prior to the events of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Peach was notified by the Beanbean Kingdom that the witch Cackletta would come and try to steal her voice. Cackletta wanted to do this in order to waken the Beanstar, a star-shaped bean which would grant wishes to everyone. The Beanstar has been sleeping and could only be wakened by a pure voice, in order to prevent abuse. Peach took precautions and when Cackletta and Fawful, dressed as ambassadors, arrived at her castle, they were not greeted by Peach, but by Birdo, who was disguised as the princess. Cackletta and Fawful unknowingly stole Birdo's voice and escaped from the castle, leaving Birdo with a voice of exploding characters. However, Mario, Luigi and Bowser, who were not aware of the true identity of the "princess", and followed Cackletta to the Beanbean Kingdom before the real Peach was able to intervene.

After Mario and Luigi had presumably killed Cackletta at the Woohoo Hooniversity, Peach went to the Beanbean Kingdom with her plane. Peach revealed Birdo's disguise, thanked Mario and Luigi for taking care of the Cackletta problem, and decided to spend the holidays in the Beanbean Kingdom. She expressed the wish to travel to Little Fungitown, a settlement of Toad emigrants, which was lying across the dangerous Teehee Valley. Toadsworth insisted that Mario and Luigi accompany the princess on this journey. During their venture through Teehee Valley, Peach had to be protected from any harm in the desert. When she disappeared from Mario and Luigi's view, Gritty Goombas would appear instantly and taking her to an underground dungeon. At the valley's end, Peach ran into Trunkle, a giant rock monster, but Mario and Luigi saved her from it before it was too late.

Later, Bowletta kidnapped Peach in order to make sure to awaken the Beanstar this time, which had shown angry reactions when confronted with Birdo's voice. She took Peach, who was at the Mushroom Kingdom embassy of Little Fungitown at the time, using Bowser's Koopa Clown Car. However, Cackletta was no longer in the possession of the Beanstar itself. When Mario and Luigi met Bowletta in Joke's End, Luigi dressed himself up in Peach's spare dress to fool Bowletta and Fawful into thinking he was Peach. The plan worked, and Bowletta released the real Peach, and kidnapped Luigi instead. In the meantime, Mario received a kiss from Peach. After Luigi's escape from the repaired Koopa Cruiser, Peach stayed in the Little Fungitown embassy until Bowletta was defeated.

A Different Captor

Peach in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Before the events of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Peach went to a trip through the entire Mushroom Kingdom. They had a stop at Rogueport to refill their ship's fuel. On the market, she met an old saleswoman, presumably one of the Shadow Sirens. They had decided that Peach would be the best body for their bodiless Shadow Queen, who was locked up behind the Thousand-Year Door for exactly thousand years by the time of the game. They gave Peach the Magical Map, as she had a pure heart, which was needed to be able to open the chest of the map. The Shadow Sirens then tricked the alien Sir Grodus into capturing Peach and animating the Shadow Queen with her body. Before this happened, however, Peach had already sent the Magical Map to Mario, inviting him on a treasure hunt.

Peach was taken to the X-Naut Fortress on the Moon. While both Mario and, unsuccessfully, Bowser searched for the Crystal Stars to rescue her, the princess became active herself in the fortress. The base's main computer, the TEC-XX, fell in love with her due to a short circuit in its system, and betrayed Grodus to help Peach escape. He allowed her to send an e-mail to Mario at regular intervals. By the computer's orders, Peach dressed up as an X-Naut to question Grodus, and also made herself an invisibility potion to find out even more about Grodus's plans. However, Grodus had TEC shut down when he found out, and took Peach to the Palace of Shadow.

Mario followed, and he met up with Grodus in the room right before the tomb of the Shadow Queen. Grodus confronted Mario, and was prepared to kill Peach if Mario made a false move. However, Bowser fell through the ceiling on top of Grodus. While Mario and Bowser were fighting, Grodus took Peach down to the tomb and offered her as a body for the Shadow Queen. The ancient 1000-year old demon then possessed Peach, but refused to take Grodus's orders, nearly killing him. The Shadow Queen engaged battle with Mario and his partners. However, she found Peach's body too weak and returned to her true form (a purple shadow creature) for the final battle. Peach was able to give her powers to Mario for this. She could talk out of the Shadow Queen's body as the demon was weakened by the encouraging voices of the entire population of the Rogueport area, which were brought to the basement of the Palace of Shadow by the magic of the Crystal Stars. In the end, the Shadow Queen was defeated and Peach was restored. In the game's post-credits scene, Peach came to Mario's House, telling him she found yet another map and wanted to invite Mario on another treasure hunt. However, Mario fainted. It is revealed in the end Peach had saved TEC.

It was possible for Peach to have a ponytail, after taking a bath in the bathroom of her cell, but only for the time she remained inside that room.

Time Travelling

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time starts with a view on the past. At the time the story starts, Young Toadsworth always took care of the baby princess, since she cried a lot. Baby Mario and Baby Luigi would sometimes come to play with her. And even Baby Bowser still came to kidnap her. But one day, aliens known as Shroobs invaded the Mushroom Kingdom. And since Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Bowser, Baby Peach and Young Toadsworth were all there, Baby Bowser called Kamek to get them out of the castle. Kamek arrived and took them out of the castle with the Koopa Cruiser just in time.

In the present, Peach, Toadiko and Toadbert had used the Time Machine of Professor E. Gadd to travel back to the past, to the time where the Shroobs were attacking. When they got to the past, the Shroobs cornered Peach and the Toads. Elder Princess Shroob, the leader of the Shroobs, and Princess Shroob, her younger sister, attacked Peach. Peach grabbed the time machine's power supply, the Cobalt Star, and trapped Elder Princess Shroob inside it. Then she broke the Cobalt Star into pieces, while Elder Princess Shroob was still inside. Princess Shroob then captured Peach.

While Mario and Luigi teamed up with their baby selves to recover the Cobalt Shards, which they needed to save Peach according to Professor E. Gadd, Princess Shroob dressed herself up as Princess Peach. However, she was swallowed by Petey Piranha. The Mario Bros. and their younger selves defeated Petey Piranha, and Princess Shroob, disguised as Peach, was brought to the present by the brothers. E. Gadd told the fake princess to take a rest. However, while she was doing so, Bowser came and kidnapped her, believing that she was Peach. The Mario Bros. and Bowser only found out the true identity of Princess Shroob when they were all sucked into the Shroob Mother Ship in the past. During all this time, the real Peach was still in Shroob Castle.

When Mario and Luigi got to Shroob Castle, they saw Peach, but Princess Shroob interrupted their conversation at the point where Peach was going to explain why the Cobalt Star should not be completed and a battle begins. After it, Baby Bowser reunited the Cobalt Star Shards all together, making Elder Princess Shroob appear and giving her back all her power. After the battle, Peach and the others return to the present.

Kidnapped By a Kid

Princess Peach was kidnapped once again in New Super Mario Bros. However, as in Super Mario Sunshine, the culprit was not Bowser but his son, Bowser Jr. In the beginning of the game, Peach and Mario were enjoying a walk around the castle. However, smoke began to billow from the peaceful fortress. When Mario went to investigate, Peach was nabbed by Bowser Jr. As it turned out, the fire was merely a diversion created by Junior to lure Mario away from Peach. Mario chased Bowser Jr., with Peach in tow, throughout the Mushroom Kingdom, eventually stopping the young fiend, fighting him along with Bowser, and after defeating them, saving Peach. Mario then recieves a kiss from Peach.

Peach To The Rescue

Super Princess Peach marked a change of roles in the Mario series – it was Princess Peach's turn to save Mario and Luigi from King Bowser. With the aid of a talking umbrella named Perry – who was amnesiac and therefore possessed a mysterious past – Peach traveled to Vibe Island, where Bowser had moved his operations in order to obtain the Vibe Scepter. However, the Goomba who brought it to him had been affected by its magic, and with a calm, playful attitude, he used the scepter on the entire island, thereby creating chaos.

With this, Peach was capable of using four Vibe Techniques to help her through the areas. Princess Peach also was capable of floating for a short period of time like she was in Super Mario Bros. 2 (and subsequently, Super Smash Bros. Melee), only this time she used Perry to hold her aloft rather than her dress.

Eventually, she fought her way through the island's many hazards and rescued Mario and Luigi. Perry also became less amnesiatic as time went on, eventually recovering his memory. After Peach rescues Mario, he picks her up into his arms and gives her some flowers. Then everyone heads home together.

Super Paper Princess

In Super Paper Mario, Peach along with Bowser, Luigi, and Bowser's minions are kidnapped by Count Bleck. Bleck forces her and Bowser marry, the only way to form the evil Chaos Heart which will destroy the world. As Luigi, who was attending the wedding, stomped on it in a desperate attempt to stop it, everything was destroyed but Peach survived and later escapes Bleck's Castle with the help of Private Koopa and secretly Dimentio, a follower of Count Bleck, and fell from the sky into Flipside. Although she was temporarily unconscious where Mario finds her, she got better and joined the team after Mario gave her some Spicy Soup. She could float with her parasol using the 2 button, and if the player pressed down on the D-Pad, she used the parasol to shield herself from her enemies. Luigi and Bowser later join the cause, though Bowser had to be convinced by Peach. She was sent to the Overthere by Dimentio.

The gang finally make it to Count Bleck's lair. In Chapter 8-2, Mimi, a loyal minion of Count Bleck, taunted her for having been kidnapped so many times and for being rescued by plumbers instead of just rescuing herself. Mimi may have been a little jealous of her. Peach and Mimi clashed soon after. When Peach won, a trap door was activated and Mimi fell down it. However, Peach saved her. The two fell down the shaft and were thought to be lost, but both survived. Peach comes back during the final battle against Count Bleck. It turns out though that Dimentio is the real threat as Bleck only wanted to destroy the world after the loss of his girlfriend. His girlfriend though turned out to be Tippi a member of Mario's team. After defeating Super Dimentio and freeing Luigi, Peach witnesses the marriage of Bleck and Tippi in order to stop the void.

It is very interesting to note that, even by the end of Super Paper Mario, nothing was ever stated about Peach and Bowser forming a divorce of any sorts, and it is likely that the subject of their bond in matrimony will never be touched again in any Mario game. However, Count Bleck had asked during the ceremony that they would stay bonded until "their games be over," and thus being sent to The Underwhere by Dimentio could have nullified the marriage.

It was possible to have Peach temporarily wear her hair in a ponytail. She simply had to visit Bleu's house in Flopside's first floor and talk to Bleu. The only other times Peach wore her hair like this in the game were at the wedding scene at the beginning and in Chapters 4-1 and 4-3. It only lasts till the player changed characters or left the floor. This game revealed that Peach prefers spicy foods over other dishes.

Captive in Space

In Super Mario Galaxy, Peach is kidnapped by Bowser. She is brought into Outer Space, along with her castle and some Toads, and Mario will have to go through different planets to save her.

The story begins off with Mushroom Kingdom celebrating the centennial passing of a comet. Peach sends Mario a letter that night inviting him to her castle. Mario in excitement races off to meet her. That same night Bowser and his armada of Airships attack Toad Town, setting fire to it. From her balcony, Peach watches with a worried look while holding a Luma she found, as Bowser approached her castle in his airship. He then invites her to the creation of his new galaxy. When she doesn't answer but looks shyly at him hugging her Luma closer to her, Bowser laughs and summons a UFO. The UFO cuts the castle out the ground and the airships lift it into space. Mario had made it to the castle before it was lifted. Just as Mario begins to reach for Peach he is attacked and sent flying with Peach still calling out to him. It is revealed later Luigi was also in the castle, and also needs saving.

The little Luma escapes and finds Mario after which it takes him to Princess Rosalina, mother of the Lumas and protector of the cosmos. She awares him of the danger the universe is in after Bowser attacked her Comet Observatory. Finding the Grand Stars, Power Stars, and Peach are intertwined. Mario then sets out on a quest through the universe. At times Peach sneeks mail to Mario giving him a bit of aid. When the Observatory has enough power and with Mario's permission, Rosalina flies it to the center of the universe where Peach is held captive. While Mario enters the castle to Bowser's Galaxy Reactor, Rosalina keeps the armada busy.

After surviving several traps Mario makes it to the reactor. Bowser Jr. meets him in his airship and reveals he has Peach. Then the prince teases Mario up the stair case into a confrontation with his father. When Mario faces him off for the third time Bowser finally reveals his plans. His galaxy reactor will cause the universe to collapse on itself and create a new. Then he would rule a great galactic empire with Princess Peach. Mario and Bowser then battle, as Bowser Jr. and Peach watch. After an intense battle Mario finally defeats Bowser who falls into his own reactor. Mario then rescues the last Grand Star and catches Peach as she falls from Junior's airship. Taking her hand he leads her away from the reactor and prepares to take Peach aboard the Observatory. Suddenly Bowser's reactor explores and sucks everything in as a Black Hole. Fortunately the Lumas stop the destruction.

Peach later wakes up in Mushroom Kingdom next to Mario and Bowser. She then looks on in wonder as other creatures Mario had met during his adventures are now in her kingdom.

Other Games

Peach Kart

Peach has always been playable in the Mario Kart series. In Super Mario Kart, when controlled by the CPU, she will sometimes use mushrooms against the other drivers which will shrink them. In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, she is teamed up with Daisy, and their special item is the Heart. Her personal kart is the Heart Coach. In Mario Kart DS, her karts are the Royale and the Light Tripper. In Mission mode, she has to race against King Boo. She is excellent at drifting corners and has excellent item use. She also has good handling. Interestingly, Peach was classified Middleweight in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, but Light in Mario Kart DS. Peach's racing courses are Peach Beach, Peach Circuit, and Peach Garden. Peach will be appearing in Mario Kart Wii.

Party Girl!

Peach is also playable in all games of the Mario Party series. In Mario Party 3 story mode, the player has to defeat her for the Love Star Stamp. On the Mario Party 3 duel boards, she starts with Toad as a partner. According to the Mario Party 4 instruction booklet, her favorite item is the Mini Mushroom. Peach joins her friends in Mario Party 5 and in Mario Party 6 to end a fight between the Sun and the Moon. In Mario Party 7, her partner is Daisy, and their Character Orb is the Flower Orb. Peach also appeared in Mario Party 8 participating in the Star Carnival alongside her friends. She appeared most recently in Mario Party DS. Peach and her friends answer a fake invitation from Bowser and then are shrunken to the size of chess pieces.

The Queen of Tennis

In the Mario Tennis series series, Peach is a technique character, who depends on strategy since she is not that strong. In Mario Power Tennis, her Offensive Power Shot is the Super Peach Spin, while her Defensive Power Shot is the Sweet Kiss Return. She is very excellent at getting the ball in hard to reach areas, and has good footwork. Peach's gameplay is described as "something beautiful to behold" in Mario Power Tennis. Peach has her own court, the Peach Dome. Peach appeared in several of the cutscenes as the trophies were handed out in her dome. She kissed Mario on his cheek during his ceremony, and was present at Diddy Kong's, Koopa's and Petey Pirahna's ceremony. Peach also was present when Wario and Waluigi would attempt to steal Fly's or Paratroopa's trophy. She even clapped for Bowser during his award ceremony.

Peach invites the characters Clay and Ace to her tournament in Mario Tennis: Power Tour, after they complete the Island Open. She has them escorted by Mario and Toadsworth on her private plane.

Birdie Princess

Peach is playable in the Mario Golf series, where she has one of the lightest hits, excellent control and hits the ball straight. However, her hits lack distance. Her spin rivals Mario's spin. Peach is Mario's caddie in NES Open Tournament Golf. In Mario Golf: Advance Tour, Peach invites the humans Neil and Ella to participate in her Open once they have proven themselves in their world. When Neil or Ella defeats the Dunes Tourney in singles or doubles, she will send them a letter, inviting them to her tourney. Once they arrive Peach warmly greets them. Also present for the tourney is Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Wario, Waluigi, and Bowser. Before the match even begins Peach has to stop Bowser and Mario from fighting and then reminds them of their manners in the presence of guests. When Neil or Ella wins the tourney, Peach oversees the ceremony as Toadsworth hands out the trophy. Peach is also playable in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and she hosts a tournament in her course named Peach's Castle Grounds were warp pipes, Chain Chomps, and giant mushrooms can be found.

Peach Strikers

Peach is a Playmaker captain in the Mario Strikers games. She is fast, agile, and is excellent at passing. In Super Mario Strikers, her Super Strike is the Royal Strike, and in Mario Strikers Charged, her Super Ability is Freeze Frame!. When Peach does her Super Ability, cameras flock in and start to take pictures of her and traps any opponents in picture frames. Cameras were also seen taking pictures of Peach during her ground entrance. Peach when performing her Mega Strike, turns into a comely mysterious creature with wings. Her number is 10.

Peach Monarchs

There are very few technique captains in Mario Superstar Baseball. Peach has some of the best pitching skills and catching. She can also at times make homeruns even though she isn't as strong as other captains. Her special pitch is the Heart Ball. She is the captain of her team, which is called alternately Peach Monarchs, Peach Roses, Peach Dynasties or Peach Princesses. It is one of the least widespread teams, consisting of several Toads, Toadsworth, Toadette and Princess Daisy as sub-captain. Peach is one of the playable captains in story mode. In story mode Peach answers a challenge from Bowser to verse his team. In order to advance Peach has to verse the other captains. When impress they'll join her team and she can also recruit others as well. At times she has to answer a challenge from Bowser Jr. Peach will make a reappearance in Super Mario Stadium Baseball.

Peach in the Olympics

Peach also appears in the crossover game of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. She is a skill character. Peach does excellent in events such as the track, archery, skeet, and aquatics. She has the highest level of skill of all female characters but the lowest power. Peach is also one of the fastest characters. Peach uses her heart abilites again in Dream Fencing and Dream Table Tennis. In Dream Fencing Peach charges up and releases a huge pink heart. When the heart hits her opponent it expoldes into smaller hearts. It has a very long range and Peach doesn't have to be close to her opponents. In Dream Table Tennis, Peach can make the ball disappear making it difficult to find. When she unleashes her shot, she spins around in a sea of hearts and then hits the ball.

Pinball Trouble

In Mario Pinball Land, Peach is kidnapped by Bowser again. This happened after she tried an invention created by E. Gadd while at a fair. Mario then had to be turned into a pinball and go through five worlds in order to rescue her. They both then returned to the fair and rode the roller coaster together.

Super Smash Bros. Series

Peach is one of the default playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee, where she can once again float in mid-air and pull vegetables out of the ground. She has a great recovery capacity but is easy to send flying. She can also use an umbrella (like Perry) which can be used to float to the ground and whack people with. In Adventure Mode, she is fought at the end of the first stage. The player will have to fight her and Mario or Luigi. Princess Peach's Castle is also a course in the game. The detail in Peach's appearance is also greatly increased with a much more realistic look than in any Mario game before.

Peach will return in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. She will be heavily designed on her more recent appearances. She will keep her Peach Parasol, Peach Bomber, Vegetable and Toad moves, as well as stay as a light floaty character. Peach's new design in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is by far the most detailed look for Peach in any other Mario game to date. Peach's Final Smash will be called Peach Blossom, and will match Peach's peaceful personality.

Peach and Kirby on the Warp Star.

In The Subspace Emissary, Peach was watching Mario and Kirby fighting together with Princess Zelda, and ran down to assist them after the arrival of the Primids. However, she is soon captured by Petey Piranha and put into a cage along with Zelda. Kirby, who battles Petey Piranha, has the choice to rescue either Peach or Zelda. If Peach is rescued, she will team up with Kirby and escape the stadium on a Warp Star. Peach and Kirby are chased by the Battleship Halberd and are forced to land on it. However, an Arwing, which has been hit by a laser beam of the Halberd, knocks them off and they fall to the ground. When she is not rescued, Wario appears and uses a strange gun to transform her into a trophy and run off with her; it is presumed he escaped the explosion of the stadium.

Miscellaneous Games

In Mario Hoops 3 on 3, she is a technical character. Her special shot is the Heart Shot. Peach owns the Peach Field.

Peach also appeared in the "modern" version of Donkey Kong in Game & Watch Gallery 3. Donkey Kong had kidnapped her, and Mario had to rescue her. Peach was also the main character of the modern version of Cook, where she has to flip sausages, bacon, and eggs, without letting them fall.

She was Mario's nurse in Dr. Mario although she did not have a big role and was barely seen in the games. She also appeared in Yoshi's Cookie, where she was a selectable character in the VS Mode. She appeared in the Japan-only game Mario Excite Bike, where she was a playable character (along with Mario, Luigi, Toad and Wario) also she was playable in SSX on Tour and NBA Street V3, along with Mario and Luigi.

Peach is the damsel-in-distress in Hotel Mario where she is kidnapped by Bowser and the Koopalings and she can be rescued by Mario or Luigi, each time the hotel in which she is held is destroyed, she is taken to other until Bowser is defeated. Once the player beats Bowser, the Princess kisses Mario and Luigi. The Princess, Mario and Luigi then proceed to call the player "the best player ever".

She is also playable in several educational computer games. She was one of the selectable characters in Mario Teaches Typing, where she could give the typing lessons, then she appeared in its sequel, with the same role. She also appeared in Mario's Early Years: Fun with Letters where she, along with Mario and Yoshi, traveled in a wooden boat learning about grammar and letters. She also appeared in Mario's Early Years: Fun with Numbers and Mario's Early Years! Preschool Fun.

Peach, along other Mario Series characters and some characters from Dragon Quest Series, appeared in the Monopoly game Itadaki Street DS. In that game her castle was also a playable stage.

The Future

Peach is set to appear in Mario Kart Wii and images have been shown of her riding a motorcycle. Peach has also been revealed for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Finally, she is shown to be playable in Super Mario Stadium Baseball.

Princess Toadstool and King Koopa in the cartoons.

In the DiC Entertainment cartoons The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Super Mario World cartoon, Princess Toadstool appeared regularly. She had red hair instead of blonde, due to its coloration in the first few games. Peach's kind heart and gentle nature prevailed in the cartoons. She usually was a damsel-in-distress along with Toad, but at times she saved Mario and Luigi. Peach was also showed to be looking for someone to defeat Bowser, but she would take the time out to help others such as her friend Joliet. She was very charitable in helping orphanages and even open a school for the cave children in the Super Mario World series. A special form of Toadstool, Super Princess, appeared in the The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "The Trojan Koopa".

Anime

Peach starred in The Great Mission to Save Princess Peach, as the damsel-in-distress. The story begins off when Mario is playing a videogame and then Peach comes out of the T.V., fleeing from some enemies, and explains to Mario that she is the princess from the Mushroom Kingdom and asks him for help. Mario instantly becomes lovestruck. But then Bowser appears and kidnaps Peach. It is revealed later by a wise old man that Bowser is madly in love with her and wanted to force a marriage on Peach. Mario and Luigi then set out and manage to save Princess Peach. The castle had been turned into the Koopa Castle, but after Bowser's defeat it is turned back into Peach's castle. Peach also had a boyfriend named Prince Haru, prince of the Flower Kingdom. Mario in the end was shown to be very jealous over this, but he and Peach still remained friends.

Comics

She also appeared in the Nintendo Comics System comics, which had a semi-regular feature called Dear Princess Toadstool.

The Super Mario Adventures serial in Nintendo Power featured undeniably the most dynamic interpretation of the character. In this story, Bowser proposes marriage to her, which she naturally refuses. But despite being captured and held captive by the Koopalings, she does not give in easily. In the fourth installment alone, she beats up all the male Koopalings and locks them in her own cell, messes up Wendy O. Koopa's room and threatens to shred her favorite dress, and then drops out of their tower, using a Cape to fly away. On the way, though, she is knocked off-course by a Bullet Bill carrying Mario and lands unconscious. Luigi, Yoshi, and Toad find her. Luigi then sets off to rescue Mario as the others keep an eye on Peach.

When she awakens, after a dream that turns into a nightmare, and learns from Toad that the Koopalings are holding Mario for ransom, she becomes determined to break Mario out, despite Toad's warning that she might spoil Luigi's plan (infiltrating the tower disguised as her). With some assistance from Yoshi and Friendly Floyd, Peach busts back into the tower, saying she'll light a pack of Floyd's bombs unless Mario is set free. After a lot of chaos the group escapes Wendy's Tower.

Bowser recaptures the Princess later in the story, but as his planned wedding draws near, Peach still refuses to marry him and attacks all the Koopa Troopas attending to her in her dressing room. When trying to sweet-talk her doesn't work, Bowser realizes that he needs a hypnotist, at which point a Magikoopa brainwashes Peach into agreeing to marry the Koopa King. As a result of this, she is unable to fight back until a herd of Yoshis destroy the magic wand, thus breaking the spell. Mario, Peach, Luigi, and Yoshi escape and Peach kisses Mario.

Appearance

Princess Peach's Portrait: It is noticeable that she has not had many changes about her physical features until Mario Party 4, in which she had some minor changes.

Princess Peach is depicted as a blue-eyed blonde, wearing a long pink dress with arm-length gloves. Peach also wears a crown decorated with rubies and sapphires along with sapphire earrings. She wears very little makeup-just hot pink lipstick fully applied to both of her lips. Under her crown, flows long almost golden hair.

Peach has always been depicted as a blonde in games. Also, in official artwork by Nintendo, her hair has been blond since the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 (a.k.a the Lost Levels). However, due to the graphical limitations of the NES hardware, her on-screen sprite in the earlier Super Mario Bros. games displayed her with brown hair or red hair and outlines. Presumably, this was the reason why Peach was depicted with red hair instead of blonde in the cartoons. This discrepancy was remedied in the SNES era with Super Mario World, in which was she shown with her proper hair color. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, her usually yellow hair was changed to a more realistic tone of blonde. Also she started to wear arm-length gloves in Super Mario World, which is added to her ensemble.

In sport games, Peach wears more revealing outfits, when compared with her normal dress, especially so in Super Mario Strikers. In sports she is seen either wearing a sporty mini skirt or hot pants. She mostly wears pants now, but her skirt was unlockable in Mario Hoops 3 on 3. In Super Mario Sunshine, Peach wears a light pink sundress, along with jewelry. In Super Smash Bros. series, Peach is depicted with more details. Her dress has several layers, embedded with golden patterns and frails. Peach's gloves are also detailed and she also wears a ring. Peach has four alternate costumes in Super Smash Bros. Melee. By wearing the yellow one, she takes on the appearance of the old-styled depiction of Daisy. Peach's pants have a slightly different look in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Even though she will wear her gown in Mario Kart Wii, it appears she will also be able to wear a pink jumpsuit with gloves when riding a motorcycle.

She sometimes wears her hair tied up in a ponytail, as seen in random parts of Super Mario Sunshine, temporarily in both Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario. She almost always has the ponytail in the sports games, with Mario Party as a notable exception. She also has the ponytail in Super Mario 64 DS.

The only time Peach was seen with different earrings is when she was possessed by the Shadow Queen.

Personality

Princess Peach is generally portrayed as a calm, sweet, cheerful, generous, and kind monarch with an avid interesting in baking. Princess Peach has also been showed to have a noble personality and a willingness to help others. For instance, in Mario Party 8, when teamed up with Yoshi they are called Kind Hearts, meaning Peach, like Yoshi, always gives out a helping hand. In the cartoon shows, her personality was much the same, as she was practical and generous to a fault; in one episode where the Mario Bros. are getting homesick, she vows to find a way to get them home and when they find it later in the episode, insists they take it even though Koopa is still on the loose. She is also shown to have an interest in surfing in the cartoons. Peach has a very soft voice and usually talks lady-like. Though this side of her is never emphasized, Peach has showed her tomboy side in sports as well as other games. She can also be naive and very strongwilled at times, but Peach is also wise and motherly. She was a motherly figure to the young Yoshi and Oogtar. Peach seems to enjoy exploring and trying new things. This curiosity though often gets her in trouble. Peach displayed her pure heart in Super Paper Mario when she saved Mimi dispite her picking on her. Mario Kart DS described her as genteel. She is also cheerful as she sings to herself alot and giggles in the sports titles.

In games like Super Mario Strikers, revealed that she can be competitive and naughty, though she still shows good sportsmanship as shown in Mario Power Tennis. Deep down inside she is very touchy about being rescued by Mario and Luigi, as seen in Super Paper Mario, but she still is very grateful for what they do. Peach has also shown humility and a willingness to forgive others. As said in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Peach plays tennis or golf match aganist Bowser, despite the trouble he continues to give her. Peach's winning personality has resulted in her gaining many friends, as well as admirers.

From Toadstool to Peach

In Japan, the Princess's name has always been Peach. Peach's name comes from the flower or the fruit of the same name. She was originally known as Princess Toadstool in the United States. The English translation of Yoshi's Safari (1993) was the first usage of the name "Peach" outside of Japan; however, the name did not catch on at that time, as the game itself was not very popular. In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, she went back to being called Princess Toadstool. It was not until Super Mario 64 that the name Peach became widely known to English-speaking audiences. The name is finally accepted as Peach's real name.

Interestingly enough, if Belome swallowed Princess Toadstool to clone her during the fight with him in Belome Temple, he would comment that she tasted "peachy".

Powers and Abilities

Her Final Smash, the Peach Blossom, is currently the only ability of Peach referring to the peach fruit.

Peach has many powers and abilities. Most of them deal with hearts. Since Peach is very lightweight, she can jump in the air and float using her dress. Princess Peach also has a parasol that helps her float or wack enemies with it. As shown in several games, she can pluck vegetables and hurl them at enemies. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Peach has a powerful special attack called the Peach Bomber. She twirls and then rams her hip into the opponent, who is then engulf with fire. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, she is shown with all her abilities from Melee, but her Peach Bomber now engulfs opponents in ice and hearts, not fire. Her Final Smash in this game is Peach Blossom, and deals with Peaches, unlike many of her other games, which deal solely on hearts. Peach in recent games, such as Mario Strikers Charged has been showed to be fast and agile. She can somersault over opposing teams. She can also summon cameras to aid her. In Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Peach is a Skill-type player, alongside Tails, Dr. Eggman, and Waluigi. She has high speed and a high level of skill, but decent stamina and low power. Peach is the only female character to have the highest level of skill but the lowest power. She does well in events such as Archery, Vault, and Aquatics.

Princess Peach is very graceful. When performing the Heart Shot in Mario Hoops 3 on 3, she will perform elegant moves while dribbling out the shape of a triangle. Peach is also into ball-room dancing, singing, and plays the piano. In many of her victory scenes Peach will do delicate twirls or blow kisses. As shown in Mario Party 7, Peach can summon flowers to aid her in avoiding traps on the boards. Her flower abilities, along with a combination of heart abilities, will be shown again in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Her Final Smash is Peach Blossom.

Princess Peach is mostly shown to be the heart princess. These abilities could be a symbol of her pure and good heart, or her beauty. She can use hearts to absorb attacks as shown in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. When she hits the ball nicely in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, a trail of hearts will follow the ball. Peach uses the power of love in Mario Power Tennis. To recover the ball, she will blow a kiss and hearts will appear and bring the ball to her. When she performs a Super Strike in Super Mario Strikers, hearts will follow the soccer ball. Peach uses her heart abilities again in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.

Mario

Mario is Peach's very close companion since childhood. It is not known if they have an even closer relationship, but most believe they are dating. In the first Paper Mario, one of the Toads tells Mario to take Peach on a date to Shooting Star Summit. Mario saves Peach quite often and she usually will bake him a cake or give him a kiss upon her rescue. Mario gets very happy every time she kisses him, and he seems to enjoy being around her. Princess Peach also saves Mario on occasion by using her wits. Even when Peach is kidnapped, she is always shown to be more concern about Mario's safety. Since Peach's debut appearance, the two have been largely speculated to be in a romantic relationship. This is confirmed in the official European Mario website, in which Peach is listed as Mario's girlfriend. In Mario Party 5, Peach and Mario are called 'Cutest Couple'. They also make a great team when paired together in Mario Superstar Baseball. Mario Power Tennis even goes as far as showing Mario himself telling Peach of his love for her in Peach's victory scene. Peach responded with a smile and blew a kiss. Also, in Mario's victory scene in Mario Power Tennis, Peach gives him a small kiss on his cheek. They both show deep devotion to each other as depicted in many of the games, especially in the Paper Mario series. Mario's concern for Peach is immensely showed in Super Mario Galaxy. Princess Rosalina even referred to Peach as Mario's 'Special One'.

Princess Daisy

Daisy has been known to be best friends with Peach ever since her big comeback appearance in Mario Tennis for the Nintendo 64. If something involves partners in the Mario spin-offs the two will usually be a team. Naturally, the two of them enjoy a friendly rivalry, but for the most part they enjoy each other's company. Like Luigi, the two share good chemistry in the game Mario Superstar Baseball, and Daisy is Peach's team's co-captain. By their friendship, one can assume that the Mushroom Kingdom and Sarasaland have very good foreign relations. Nintendo's Mario Power Tennis website says that Daisy is Peach's sister in arms; obviously meaning more of a brotherly love type of relationship than an actual blood relationship.

Luigi

Luigi is Peach's friend. It is hinted that Luigi may have a crush on her. If Luigi rescues her in New Super Mario Bros. or the Super Mario All-Stars remake of Super Mario Bros., Peach rewards Luigi with a kiss, just like she does for Mario. In Super Mario World, she goes on the same romantic romp through the worlds as she would with Mario, if Luigi (Player 2) defeats Bowser. Luigi is seen swooning over her in her Mario Power Tennis victory scene with hearts in his eyes, indicating that Luigi has romantic feelings for her. Luigi's storyline in Super Mario Galaxy in pretty much the same as Mario's, and Princess Rosalina calls Peach Luigi and Mario's "special one". Peach giving Luigi a kiss could be more in a form of a 'thank-you', considering she doesn't show an interest in him in other games.

Bowser

Princess Peach has not escaped the notice of a powerful tyrant. Bowser has repeatedly kidnapped Peach more than ten times. He also torments her kingdom constantly, and bullies her like he does everybody else. It has been shown recently he has fallen in love with her, and wants to win her heart. Bowser was embarrassed at first for anyone to know of his secret as depicted in Paper Mario, but recently he has gotten bolder in expressing himself. An example of this was seen in Mario Power Tennis, where he tried to get Peach to kiss him in front of the spectators. Bowser tends to get jealous if anyone else other than him kidnapps her. The two do not play well when together in Mario Superstar Baseball because of their differences, even though it is apparent Bowser is infatuated with the Princess. In Super Paper Mario Peach and Bowser are supposedly married by Count Bleck making them husband and wife. Although they were wed by Count Bleck, who is obviously not authorized to do such a thing, which means that the wedding is a "sham" and, therefore, unofficial. Later in the game Peach states the same to Bowser. Bowser though continued to believe in the marriage, and even started to act as a protective husband. In Super Mario Galaxy Bowser kidnaps Peach once again with the intention of creating his own galaxy in the center of the universe, with Peach as his queen.

Yoshi

Main article: Yoshi

Yoshi has helped Mario and Luigi before to rescue Peach. He also helped to save her from Bowser's clutches in Super Mario 64 DS. In the Super Mario World credits, Yoshi is seen giving Peach a lift after her rescue. They appear to be on friendly terms. Yoshi also teamed up with Baby Peach and four other babies in Yoshi's Island DS. They are usually given positive names in the Mario Party series.

Bowser Jr.

Main article: Bowser Jr.

Even though Bowser Jr. knows Peach is not his mother, he still called her 'mama' in Mario Superstar Baseball. He may be aware of his father's deep feelings for her. Junior, as shown in Super Mario Sunshine, likes Peach and tried to get her to join him and his dad in the onsen. Peach politely refused the offer. He is often shown to be protective of her. In the game Super Mario Galaxy, Bowser Jr. refers Peach as Princess Peach and not as Mama Peach when taunting Mario.

Others

Birdo and Peach receive positive names in the Mario Party series when teamed up. Peach and Donkey Kong usually do not interact, but he did help her in Mario Tennis: Power Tour. When Waluigi and Bowser started to pick on her, Mario and Luigi were ready to fight. But DK stepped in between and ended it by beating on his chest, allowing Peach to start the tournament. Peach usually sides with Mario, but she is friendly to Wario at times. They are given a positive name in Mario Party 8, 'Sugar 'n' Spies'. It was also hinted in Mario Superstar Baseball that Wario may have a crush on Peach. Peach also has friendships with many foreign kingdoms as shown in games and the media. Toadsworth is Princess Peach's faithful steward. He seems to be protective, but has been caring for her since she was a baby. Toadette is another good friend of Peach. They share good chemistry in Mario Superstar Baseball. Toad is a loyal servant of Princess Peach who would do anything to protect her. In the credits for Super Mario Sunshine, Peach is seen relaxing in a hot tub with FLUDD. In the anime The Great Mission to Save Princess Peach she had a boyfriend named Prince Haru. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl it is noticeable that Princess Peach and Princess Zelda are friends. In the Paper Mario series, Peach has befriended many people such as Twink, TEC, and Private Koopa.

Princess Peach and her people have stayed together during the darkest of times. Peach loves her people dearly and provides them with much recreation. She always puts them first. In the television series, Peach was willing to marry Bowser to save her people. Her subjects care for her as well, as Peach is described in New Super Mario Bros. as a beloved princess.

Princess Peach presides over the Mushroom Kingdom from her huge castle. Her loyal subject Toad does his best to protect her but always seems to fail spectacularly. Besides her royal duties, Peach is interested in both tennis and golf; since she's so magnanimous, she'll even deign to play a few matches with the evil Bowser.

Peach's ability to float is invaluable in Super Smash Bros. Melee, as she can return from incredible distances. Balancing this talent, though, is the fact that she's quite light and can be sent flying with a single powerful attack. Her attacks are fairly weak, so you'll have to hang around to win.

Peach's Smash A attack will set her swinging with either a frying pan, tennis racket, or golf club. These bludgeoning devices appear randomly and have different reaches and power levels. The princess uses Toad to absorb attacks, and he counters by sending spores out at attackers. Don't worry about the little guy, though; he takes his job seriously.

Our indomitable royal heroine is definitely no old-fashioned damsel-in-distress, who does little more than wait to be rescued. She's very much a charming, energetic, contemporary young woman. Chronologically, a seventeen-year-old, but with a royal sense of responsibility and noblesse oblige that few teenagers possess. Because of her intelligence and intimate knowledge of her domain, she often takes charge of the rescue mission and comes up with the clever plan to foil King Koopa's latest plot. Her people respect and admire her. She regards the Mario Bros. as her closest friends, and is extremely grateful that they have left their own world to come help save hers. It's no easy task rescuing a kingdom, and what makes it even worse in Super Mario 3 [sic], is that King Koopa's kids regard Princess Toadstool as their prime target for troublemaking.

Cameos

• She also appeared in the Nintendo Monopoly. She cost $220, and took the place of Indiana Avenue.

• An item called the Peach Kart, a remote control kart with the princess, appeared in Nintendogs, and was only unlockable in Lab & Friends. Puppies liked to chase after it, and when it drove around, the music from Peach Beach played.
• Peach made certain cameo appearances in The Legend of Zelda series. One of them was a painting of her, that could be seen through a window on Hyrule castle.
