Grunts[1] are red-colored Bandits that have spiked helmets on their heads, and domino masks with tight-fitting yellow hoods instead of large white masks and loose hoods, appearing in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 and Yoshi's New Island. Grunts are only encountered on levels 4-4: Marching Milde's Fort, a bonus arena in 6-1: Scary Skeleton Goonies! and 6-Extra: Ultimate Castle Challenge (also known as Castles - Masterpiece Set) in the Game Boy Advance version. They don't attack or do anything other than running throughout various castles. They can lose their helmets if they are hit with one of Yoshi's eggs, resulting in them looking embarrassed and then frantically running back and forth. A Yoshi can also consume a Grunt and turn it into an Egg. If Yoshi swallows a Grunt that has lost its helmet and spits it back out, it will have a helmet again.
