The minigame is luck-based. Players take turns to press either a red, a purple, a yellow, a green, or a white switch, hoping it does not result in the bomb exploding. If the nostrils on the bomb emit steam, the player is not disqualified, and they go to the back of the line. If the wrong switch is set off, the eyes on the bomb count down from three before exploding. If every player presses a switch that does not detonate the bomb, a different set of switches appears. Each time a player is disqualified, one less switch is available, going to as few as three. The last player left wins.
This version of the game featured a giant [[Bowser]] inflatable balloon.  There were a certain number of switches; activating the wrong one would cause Bowser to explode. The player who flipped the unlucky switch was eliminated from the game.  This continued until only one character was left.

In ''Mario Party: The Top 100'' and ''Mario Party Superstars'', the player characters breathe a sigh of relief if the bomb does not explode or take cover if it does. ''Mario Party Superstars'' adds more animations, including the player character holding their breath after choosing a bomb and panicking if the bomb counts down. ''Mario Party Superstars'' also shows the bomb emitting electricity and turning white upon blowing up.

This game plays similarly, however, this version of the game has the rumble feature and Bowser makes a more dramatic blast when he explodes. Additionally, this Bowser is made of glass.

Overview[edit]

Wario in Bowser's Big Blast in Mario Party Superstars.
Gameplay from Mario Party Superstars

The opening shows a mechanism screwing a large bomb shaped like Bowser into place. The four players then arrive, lined up, and the switches show up.

Gameplay of the Bowser's Big Blast minigame in Mario Party 2, where Luigi wins.
Wario losing in Mario Party 2

In Mario Party: The Top 100 and Mario Party Superstars, the player characters breathe a sigh of relief if the bomb does not explode or take cover if it does. Mario Party Superstars adds more animations, including the player character holding their breath after choosing a bomb and panicking if the bomb counts down. Mario Party Superstars also shows the bomb emitting electricity and turning white upon blowing up.

It costs 980 coins to buy the minigame from Woody in Mario Party 2.
