Cherbil
Sprite of a Cherbil from Super Paper Mario.
Sprite from Super Paper Mario
First appearance Super Paper Mario (2007)
Variants

Cherbils are floating enemies found in Super Paper Mario. They are one of the more common enemy species in the game, appearing in various locations such as Yold Desert, the Gap of Crag or the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials in room 6. They have the ability to put the player to sleep by spewing pink gas at them.

Cherbils and their cousins seem to be named after cherries, which they vaguely resemble, and possibly gerbils. Their use of gases could also make their name come from Chernobyl, a city in Ukraine which was the site of a nuclear disaster in 1986.

Trivia[edit]

  • O'Chunks mentions Cherbils when he wants to get Count Bleck to get him to fight Mario. He alludes to their bottom-like appearance by saying he will "Spank (Clobber in the British English version) 'em like naughty little Cherbils". Tippi's tattle on the Cherbils also supports this claim. Additionally, their common drop of Peachy Peaches may be a subtle joke regarding the fruit's own bottom-like shape.
