If [[Donkey Kong]] brings a DK Barrel with him in a level, and is not with [[Diddy Kong]], the player can tap the Touch Screen to have Donkey Kong throw out the DK Barrel. (DK Barrels cannot be held). This has all the effects a normal DK Barrel has: defeating enemies, breaking [[Burlap Hanging Sack]]s, calling out Diddy Kong, and healing both Kongs's health.

The Portable DK Barrel[1], usually called a DK Barrel, is an item introduced in Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. If Donkey Kong brings a Portable DK Barrel into a level, he can throw it from his inventory. This means Donkey Kong can use the effects of a DK Barrel at most points in a level.

DK Barrels are introduced in Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. They are an item exclusive to the game's New Mode. DK Barrels can be purchased from Cranky Kong's Shop for five Banana Coins. If Donkey Kong brings a DK Barrel with him in a level, and is not with Diddy Kong, the player can tap the Touch Screen to have Donkey Kong throw out the DK Barrel. (DK Barrels cannot be held, only thrown.) This has all the effects a normal DK Barrel has: defeating enemies, breaking Burlap Hanging Sacks, calling out Diddy Kong, and healing both Kongs's health.

In Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, DK Barrels are available in Modern Mode.

While DK Barrels do not appear in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Funky's Fly 'n' Buy sells Diddy Kong Barrels, Dixie Kong Barrels, and Cranky Kong Barrels for 15 Banana Coins each. Each of these items enables Donkey Kong to start a level with the barrel's character. If Donkey Kong already has a buddy, then the Barrel is inert until he does not have a buddy. After a short delay, signified by it growing and shrinking, it activates to give Donkey Kong the specified character.
