Sammer Guys are vassals in Super Paper Mario that fight for King Sammer. There are 100 of them in all, each guarding a gate for their king to fight challengers in the Duel of 100. There are two additional variants: Small Sammer Guy and Big Sammer Guy. There are also many variants of each type, with different abilities and/or weapons.
They were all destroyed along with their dimension when it was sucked up by The Void, but were restored along with their land after Dimentio, the Chaos Heart, and The Void were destroyed. If Mario, Peach, Bowser, and Luigi defeat all 100 Sammer Guys afterward, King Sammer will banish them all to a vacation somewhere, and they cannot be seen or fought again.
Their name is a pun on "samurai". Almost all individual names of Sammer Guys are references to things from previous Super Mario games. Sammer Guys also tend to behave very humorously, especially in terms of dialogue. Also, Tippi's Tattle on them are notable for being completely unhelpful, only telling random information about each Sammer Guy, such as how Zesty Recipe makes warm, gooey brownies for the Sammer Guy break hour. However, Tattling Jade Blooper, the first Sammer Guy, when fighting him the first time does yield stats on Sammer Guys in general.
In Super Mario-kun, Sammer Guys are briefly shown and mentioned in volume 38. After saving Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Tippi from Bonechill, Peach explains how she obtained her two Pure Hearts. The first one is explained with a long story based on Super Paper Mario's Chapter 5, in which she managed to bring peace between the Floro Sapiens and the Cragnons. When Mario asks her where she obtained the second Pure Heart, she just says that she defeated the 100 Sammer's Kingdom soldiers in a tournament, one by one, leaving Mario and his friends speechless.
Types of Sammer Guys
Type | Image | Description |
---|---|---|
Green | The normal Sammer Guys. They attack by running and swinging their weapon, and rarely jump. | |
Blue | Blue Sammer Guys jump often and jump high. | |
Red | Red Sammer Guys shoot shockwaves from their weapon. Later ones can jump. | |
Red-Blue | Red-helmeted Sammer Guys with blue bodies and heads shoot energy balls from their mouths. Later ones can jump. | |
Big | Big Sammer Guys wield a club and can jump and roll. They tend to have higher HP and Attack Power relative to the other Sammer Guys. | |
Small | Small Sammer Guys are very fast and jump far, but they always have 1 HP. They appear in any color. | |
Knight | These Sammer Guys guard the last gate of the first three chapters, and have superior stats compared to neighboring Sammer Guys. They both shoot beams and jump. The first one has a spike and can shoot beams, the second is a spiked Big Sammer Guy, and the third can flip and extend its sword. | |
Neon | Neon Sammer Guys can flip into 3-D and extend their sword across the stage. | |
Spike | Spiked Sammer Guys are intermixed with other types. They are immune to jump attacks, unless Carrie is used. | |
Mace | Sammer Guys with maces are intermixed with other types. They generally have higher Attack Power. | |
End Boss | A unique golden Big Sammer Guy and the 100th Sammer Guy overall. It has much higher stats than other Sammer Guys. It has a spiked head and club and can also breathe fire. |
