After his trek through the [[Yold Desert]], [[Mario]] enters the Yold Ruins and starts exploring them. He eventually comes across [[Fracktail]] after overcoming plenty of obstacles including a number puzzle and an encounter with a horde of [[Spiky Tromp]]s. Fracktail quickly identifies Mario as the hero, and gladly lets Mario continue on to the [[Pure Heart]].

The player must also use [[Thoreau]] on a select few occasions to grab out-of-reach objects and activate switches. At the ruins' end, Mario encounters [[Fracktail]], the robotic guardian of the complex, who initially agrees to let him pass - however, he malfunctions due to [[Dimentio]]'s interference, and the hero is forced to battle and ultimately destroy him.


However, [[Dimentio]] appears and hypnotizes the dragon into attacking the plumber. Fracktail is soon defeated and Mario continues on to find [[Merlumina]] who gladly gives him the Pure Heart.
