Mermaid Yoshi is one of Yoshi's several transformations that appears in Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, specifically in Rollin' Down the River and Frozen Solid and Chilled. Mermaid Yoshi has the head and upper body down to and including the saddle of a regular Yoshi, but from this point downwards the Yoshi has a tail made of sequins to give it a scaly and shiny effect. The fins of the tail are rounded and almost heart-shaped. The color of the sequinned tail depends on which player the Yoshi is, with player one receiving a red tail and player two receiving a royal-blue tail.
Mermaid Yoshi can swim through water quickly, and swim freely beneath the surface where normal Yoshi cannot. While underwater, the player can move freely in any direction, and is only lightly affected by gravity. Mermaid Yoshi can swim up waterfalls, though the flow pushes Yoshi downward. Outside of water, the player can only move left and right while being affected by gravity normally. Mermaid Yoshi also has more inertia when out of the water, making it more difficult to turn. If Mermaid Yoshi lands on solid ground, they are forced to move in the direction they landed in until they leave the ground. Upward sloped icy surfaces slow Mermaid Yoshi to a stop, then send them the other way. Mermaid Yoshi can use its high speed underwater to make high jumps out of the water. At the peak of every jump, Mermaid Yoshi does a flip. Mermaid Yoshi magnetizes beads and Wonder Wool towards them. If Mermaid Yoshi touches enemies, Yoshi is stunned for a short time.
If the player presses

while in a body of water, depending on the player's control style, Mermaid Yoshi performs a spin attack. This gives Yoshi a burst of speed in the direction they are facing. It can defeat enemies and break Ice Blocks.
