<< Directory of missions >>

Back to IDLE's Roots is the ninth side quest in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. It is made available after linking Merrygo Island. It expires after entering Fortress Zokket for the second time.

Side quest

After linking Merrygo Island and discussing matters with the crew on Shipshape Island, three quests are made available. The player must travel to Desolatt Island and talk to Ireen's mom, who is located at the beginning of the island, to initiate the quest. Ireen's mom states that she had lost a brooch given to her by her daughter, and that she must have dropped it somewhere in the green building up north. Once the Bros. reach the building, they must figure out which hole the brooch fell into, after a resident drops all the trash they had collected, including the brooch. When the Bros. give the brooch to Ireen's mom, she proceeds to explain, via flashback, how the IDLE group was formed by Ireen battling the other members, Dulles, Loog, and Ellow, one-on-one. She also explains how the brooch given by her daughter was made by the members of IDLE as a gift for her after she had lost another brooch. She acknowledges that despite her liveliness, Ireen is a good kid at heart. After this, she asks the Bros. to tell the members of IDLE that she will always have their back, and that she will always believe in them.
