Bouncy Mushrooms are a form of Mushroom Platform appearing in New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and Mario Kart 7. In the Super Mario series, they bounce the player upwards, as if they were using a Note Block or Spring. In the Mario Kart series, red ones merely bounce karts, whereas blue ones also deploy the Glider. Additionally, driving on red and blue Bouncy Mushrooms allows the player to perform Tricks.

History

Super Mario series

World 1-5 (New Super Mario Bros.)
Bouncy Mushrooms in New Super Mario Bros.

Debuting in New Super Mario Bros., Bouncy Mushrooms appear most prominently in World 1-5, but also appear in World 1-3 and World 7-4. In this game, they are colored pink and will bounce the player even higher if they press the jump button at the correct time.

Bouncy Mushrooms return in New Super Mario Bros. 2 in a few stages, namely in Template:World-link. Here, their undersides are peach-colored, and their stalks look more organic.

Bouncy Mushrooms also appear in Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario 3D World, serving the same purpose as in the 2D games. In these games, they're orange with yellow spots, and only a few of them have stalks.

Mario Kart Wii

Mushroom Gorge

Many Bouncy Mushrooms can be seen in the background, plus multiple must be driven on to complete the track.

Yoshi Falls

For the second tournament of July 2009 many Bouncy Mushrooms were placed on the course. The player had to bounce over sections of water to complete the track.

Peach Beach

The player had to bounce around Bouncy Mushrooms in the middle of the sea to complete the first tournament of April 2010.

Mario Kart 7

Mushroom Gorge returns in Mario Kart 7. Some Bouncy Mushrooms in the cave are replaced by a blue Bouncy Mushroom, which, as mentioned before, triggers the kart's Glider in a similar fashion to a blue Boost Pad. This course, along with Mario Circuit and Rainbow Road, are the only courses in this game to feature Bouncy Mushrooms.

Mario Circuit

A single Bouncy Mushroom is placed on the track. The player must use it to complete the track.

Rainbow Road

A single Bouncy Mushroom connects two parts of the track. Although it is colored differently, it acts like a red Bouncy Mushroom.

The Rainbow Road track from Mario Kart 7 appears in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS as a stage, which includes the Bouncy Mushroom. However, unlike in the original game, it isn't bouncy and merely acts as one of the main platforms of the stage. It also has no effect on the Shy Guys that drive over it.[1]
