Shy Guy Falls is the fourth and last course of the Flower Cup in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It takes place in a cliffside area with two waterfalls. Shy Guys can be seen mining throughout the course while players drive up and down the waterfalls in an anti-gravity section. While in the mine section between the waterfall and the finish line, the Shy Guys can be heard using pickaxes and singing along to the music. There are fifty Coins located on this track.
Course layout
The course begins in a crystal mine created by Shy Guys. After a left turn followed by a right turn, an anti-gravity section begins, which turns the course sideways. This is followed by a jump over the first waterfall, and a left turn onto and up the second waterfall, where there are Dash Panels flowing with the water. The track then drops onto a wooden path and makes a left turn onto and down the first waterfall. After driving down the waterfall, there is a gliding section leading to the next part of the track. If the player pulls their glider up, a higher path can be taken, which then jumps back to the main path. After, the track turns slightly to the left, through a small mine where the Shy Guys are working, then to the right, before being followed by two jumps. After the jumps, the player makes a right turn which leads to the finish line.
Around the part where racers drive down the waterfall, Piranha Plants using their appearance and animation from N64 Royal Raceway can be seen, but are purely aesthetic.
Shortcuts
- Before the first waterfall, there is a turn that the player can cut off if they use a speed boosting item.
- After the gliding section, the player can boost through some grass and take a jump onto an alternate path, which then joins up with the main path.
- Before the finish line, the player can cut off the final turn by using a Mushroom or a Star.
Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack liner note
"We wanted to give this track the same sense of excitement you get from accelerating rapidly down a steep slope. We thought the Shy Guys moving in time to the music were really cute, so we added their voices for fun, singing in time to the track."
