The rotating defense mechanism[1] is a green obstacle that appears in the Secret Flower Field Entrance in the Wooded Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey. It consists of four spinning circular panels. each with spikes on the sides and Bowser's emblem on the front. It is attached to a closed gate leading to the Secret Flower Field, and must be destroyed to complete Path to the Secret Flower Field and open the gate. It does not appear at any other point in the game. The song Steam Gardens: Sherm plays while fighting it, but also plays later in the game for fighting a Yoofoe in the Steam Gardens.
The rotating defense mechanism slowly and continuously spins counterclockwise until all four panels are destroyed. When Mario approaches it, it starts to launch rolling metal balls that also have Bowser symbols on them. The balls get launched from the hole in the center of this mechanism. They roll around the area and explode on contact with walls, characters, or each other. The panels can be destroyed by shooting them with a captured Sherm, as can the metal balls. After all four panels are destroyed, the mechanism stops and breaks, revealing the Power Moon for Path to the Secret Flower Field. The Moon Pedestal for the objective opens the gate.
