Stars are small star-shaped medals that appear in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, and their respective Game Boy counterparts, Donkey Kong Land 2 and Donkey Kong Land III. Stars have the same role between all of their appearances, and they are featured only in the "Collect the Stars!" Bonus Level challenges, where the goal is for the Kongs to collect every star within the Time Limit. A counter at the top left corner indicates how many stars still need to be collected. When the Kongs collect all the stars, either a Kremkoin or a Bonus Coin (depending on the game) spawns for the Kongs to collect within the remaining time.
In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, if the "MERRY" cheat is activated, every star transforms into Christmas ornaments, though the difference is only aesthetic.
