<< Directory of levels >> |
Vertigo Verge is the fourteenth level in Donkey Kong Land III and the second level of Blackforest Plateau. It takes place in a low mountain range, where Dixie and Kiddy must move through many cliffs and rocky ledges. A rainfall takes place in the level, although it does not affect the Kongs. The Kongs must use both horizontal and vertical ropes to go through the level. There are many Buzzes and Klasps in the level.
Layout[edit]
When the level begins, the Kongs make their way to a set of horizontal ropes. After they reach the bottom of the last rope, they pass some Kobbles to find a large hill. At the top of this hill, they climb down more horizontal ropes, while avoiding Klasps. Going west from there, they walk down the nearby hill and grab the letter K, finding another rope. It leads them down to a long tightrope, where the Kongs need to continue downwards around a small series of pathways. Once they reach the bottom of that area, they travel to the left and drop down some wooden platforms. Going east from there, they collect the letter O and shimmy down a nearby Buzz infested, rope. Continuing along the rocky surface, they can find more platforms to climb down. If they head east after the final platform, they can find the Star Barrel.
About halfway through the level, the heroes trudge down some more ledge to meet a Koin. Unless they want they DK Coin, they should simply travel to the west and slide down another rope, finding the letter N. After that, they walk up a small hill while avoiding enemies to spy the next rope. It guides them to some horizontal tightropes, which they need to fall down from to reach the next area. There, the apes continue along a long, rigid pathway, collecting the letter G, until they find another rope. Climbing down, they end up on a long tightrope in which they need to move across, heading east, and drop onto some wooden platforms. They soon make their way over a straight pathway to a flagpole. Touching the flagpole will end the level.
Enemies[edit]
Items and objects[edit]
The following items and objects appear in the following quantities:
- Bear coin: 1
K-O-N-G Letters[edit]
- K: To the left of a banana arrow pointing left.
- O: When the level path splits into three paths, stick to the far left one to get the "O".
- N: At the bottom of a rope to the left of the Koin.
- G: Found near two Kobble.
DK Coin[edit]
Shortly after the Star Barrel, the Kongs can find a Steel Keg near a rope. From here, Dixie and Kiddy must go southeast of the Star Barrel to find an area with the Koin. To defeat Koin, the Kongs must throw the Steel Keg at the wall behind him, causing it to ricochet and hit Koin from behind. Doing so rewards the Kongs with the DK Coin.
Bonus Levels[edit]
Vertigo Verge has two Bonus Levels, listed by type:
- Collect the Stars!: After the letter K, the Kongs must go down a long rope to find a long horizontal rope in a three-way route. From the rope, Dixie and Kiddy must climb left and enter a Bonus Barrel. In the Bonus Level, the Kongs have thirty seconds to collect 11 stars. The stars appear around the ropes, which have some Klasps climbing across back and forth. After collecting every star, the Bonus Coin appears at the bottom-right corner.
- Find the Token!: After the letter G, the Kongs must go down a long rope and land near a group of bananas in the shape of a right arrow. Instead of going right, Dixie and Kiddy must go down some horizontal ropes to find second Bonus Barrel underneath a platform on the ground. In the Bonus Level, Dixie or Kiddy have 20 seconds to obtain the Bonus Coin at the end. The Kongs must avoid enemies as they travel to the leftmost area along the way. Dixie or Kiddy must first jump from two horizontal ropes, one of which has a Klasp, then they must climb up a long rope while avoiding two Buzzes along the way. From the top of the rope, the active Kong must jump left and go past a Sneek. From here, the layout is mostly replicated from the start of the Bonus Level, except the Kongs go from top to bottom, and there are two ropes instead of one around the two Buzzes. Dixie and Kiddy can obtain the Bonus Coin at the bottom-left.
