First appearance Paper Mario: Sticker Star (2012)
Latest appearance Paper Mario: The Origami King (2020)

The Hurlhammer is a hammer introduced in Paper Mario: Sticker Star. When it is used, Mario throws his hammer into the air and lets it fall onto enemies. This allows for airborne enemies to be hit by a hammer attack. When it lands, it bounces and can hurt enemies in its path.

History

Paper Mario: Sticker Star

The Hurlhammer as a sticker

In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Hurlhammer stickers can be found in levels and can be bought from Decalburg for 20 coins. When it is used in battle, Mario holds his hammer behind him. After throwing the hammer, he looks up and flails his arms as a large hammer falls onto the enemy. It creates a shockwave, damaging nearby enemies. Hurlhammers can be used to solve the puzzles in Drybake Stadium where it needs hammer stickers to complete. Stronger variants of the Hurlhammer include the Shiny Hurlhammer, Flashy Hurlhammer, and Megaflash Hurlhammer.

The Hurlhammer can be placed into the Sticker Museum as #44, alongside other Hurlhammer-type stickers.

The Hurlhammer as a card

In Paper Mario: Color Splash, Hurlhammers appear as Battle Cards and can be bought from Prisma Cardware for 15 coins unpainted or 65 coins painted. Mario now rotates around when he is about to throw the Hurlhammer and crouches when the hammer bounces on the ground. In this game, it is weaker than the standard Hammer, but it now bounces along the ground when thrown, damaging all grounded enemies behind the struck enemy. Hurlhammer cards can appear in rounds of Snifit or Whiffit Seabed Edition. Variants of the Hurlhammer include Hurlhammer x2 and Hurlhammer x3 which allow Mario to use multiple Hurlhammers in a row with a single card. The Big Hurlhammer and Huge Hurlhammer are more powerful versions of the Hurlhammer.

A Hurlhammer Battle Card can be placed into the Prisma Museum.

Paper Mario: The Origami King

In Paper Mario: The Origami King, Hurlhammers can be bought from Toad Town for 380 coins. They function similarly to the past game, but the damage it deals is evenly spread among all enemies. It hits the same area as a Jump for as much damage as a Hammer, but it can only hit one aerial enemy at a time. A shiny variant of the Hurlhammer can be used, which deals more damage.
