A Lucky Bell[1] (called the Lucky Cat power-up[2] by the Prima Official Game Guide) is an item introduced in Super Mario 3D World, resembling a bronze jingle bell (or possibly konguro'o) with eyes. It turns Mario into his Cat form with a red collar with a bronze bell resembling the power-up added to it; this version of the form lets him transform into Lucky Cat Mario, very akin to the Tanooki Suit's Statue form, except it gives him coins while falling, with more being given the higher he falls, and makes him invincible; however, it does not protect him against lava or being crushed. It is considered an upgrade of the Super Bell, as later in the game, it replaces the Super Bell in the remixed courses. The Lucky Bell starts appearing in the Bonus World, World Mushroom in the level World Mushroom-2, Spiky Mount Beanpole. It serves as the counterpart of the Statue Leaf from Super Mario 3D Land.
Lucky Bells also appear in the Nintendo Switch enhanced port, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, where they also appear in the Bowser's Fury mode. Like all other items, Mario may collect up to five of them to store in his inventory. Lucky Bells are very rare, and cannot be obtained randomly by collecting one hundred coins. Notably, if Mario hits a Koopa Troopa shell with fireballs, boomerangs, or tail whips eight times before it lands, the shell will break open to reveal a Lucky Bell. The Lucky Bell is the only power-up item in Super Mario 3D World to not have a corresponding Stamp.
In the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass, it appears as the emblem of the Lucky Cat Cup.[3]
